Yes!!! I missed this one, but I'm here now. Your genius is demented and so grandiose it has turned evil... Hahahaha I unfortunately fucking LOVE it.

After hundreds of listens, this album gets no less thrilling, no less haunting, no less warped or sophisticated. It is pure, concentrated agony, majesty and desperation, expressed through inhuman musicianship and otherworldly songwriting. Those first three tracks are my top three BM tracks of all time (1: 'Dead as Dreams,' 2: 'The Entire Fudging* Battlefield,' 3: 'Cut Their Grain and Place Fire Therein') and it's not even close. The crushing doom breakdown halfway through 'Cut Their Grain..,' transitioning through ominous winds towards the sickeningly emotive intro to 'Dead as Dreams,' might just be my favourite musical moment full stop. I am a black metal obsessive. I've heard albums which transfixed, tortured and terrified me. I have not heard a thing which compares to this. It might just be my favourite metal album ever recorded. I struggle to find fault. Absolutely inspired, utterly divine, breathtaking and vile. Its grandiose sickness is worthy of the spectre its influence has cast. If this album killed me in my sleep, I would die happy.

Thanks to living there in the late 90s and working with their drummer, I think I saw every show they played in SF, from first to last. I knew they were legendary from the first moment at the warehouse party where their first show was, but it's still crazy to see how their legend has grown over the years. Never fully clicked with the album because the production doesn't approach their live power and the vox are too high in the mix imo. Live it just kind of all mixed together. It was like time stopped and everything became a blur. Anyway, feeling nostalgic and figured youtube needed a Weakling testimonial.

reminds me of a blacker Execration from Norway. especially their 2013 album Morbid Dimensions and 2017 Return To the Void, with more black sound. Cult of Erinyes does this sort of sound very well too as do the last couple Verberis after they changed their style drastically.
