Great episode as always! As an introvert, I deeply connected with it. I highly recommend the book Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking to every introvert. It profoundly helped me understand the inner workings of the mind and, in particular, the differences in sensitivity between the nervous systems of introverts and extroverts. Thank you!

I get the tingle at the moment of capture. Seeing it on the camera and knowing that 18 years (so far) of work came to this moment and made it possible. Could I go with out sharing it? Sure. But part of me wants to not only share it but let people know they can do this too, and they should.

I think it comes down to your goals. Posting purley wildlife can be great if you want to be a pro wildlfee photographer. But if you want to have more freedom it's just about sharing authentically who you are and incorporating the parts of your interests and those you want to monetize as well. It's not always black and white but you can share whatever you want in reality. You can share wildlife photos and brand work and landscape images there is no bounds to a personal brand if you realize yourself as the niche. You are the niche. Under that can be a guiding set of content pillars that align with traditional niches but at the end of the day you are the main connector. tell stories, share your passions, and no one will bat an eye.

Thank you for this really excellent conversation. I listened while working on my least favorite part of the process: culling! The number of times the client’s choices don’t match mine (especially early on) traumatized me a tad, making it so pretty much the instant I’m done with shoot day, I’m dreading blocking off time for post. Hearing your insights really helped calm my current nerves. 🙏

Nice episode, insightful. Love the take on indifference - it's my approach. I have a 9-5, so can be choosy about what I work on and how much I take on in my spare time. I once had a enquiry for a surf shoot (which I've stopped doing) and told the dude that my rate (on my website) is $350 for shooting from the land. The guy said "I was thinking more like $200", I replied "yeah I'm sure there are young kids that are on insta that will charge $200, try reaching out to them, but my rate is $350". He said he'd come back to me. He didn't. I wasn't surprised. 😃 I turn down lots of low ball offers, once had a guy want to licence three photos, to use at a conference for pop up banners, website, social media, printed brochures, edms and in all the presentations. He said his budget was $220. He worked for a finance "non for profit" organisation. Don't be afraid of turning down offers, if there is not enough value for you, either monetary or adding to your portfolio.

The first shoot I did for a business as a newbie and being unsure I could command the rate I aspired to someday, I did at an "introductory rate". My proposal and invoicing showed my regular rate (what I aspired to once I was sure of my abilities) and the introductory rate being charged (half of I think I did). I felt this way it lessened pressure on both sides for this first shoot but made it clear what I would be charging in the future if it all went well.

Cant wait to use these strategies to pull beautiful women, you guys are awesome 👏🏼
@KierstenStoeckel6 ай бұрын
People are missing the strategy just because she said "i don't know why people come to me". She reached out to a lot of people and started building a referral network, she also did research on airbnbs and found ones that didn't have great photos to see if she could find a mutually beneficial relationship. Don't overthink it, at the end of the day its a numbers game and you need the confidence to be told "no" a lot.

Well summarized. Thank you!!!
@denizdowntown63856 ай бұрын
when she said `I don't know why they come to me` it was obvious that it was going to be price and that she is just cheaper than the competition... there is a market of cheap clients that more experienced photographers want nothing to do with... but we all got to start somewhere

I recently discovered you guys, I enjoyed this episode so much :) I'm in a position where I really wish I could turn photography into a career, the main issue is that I don't have a portfolio that gives me the "authority" of charging a lot of money. I haven't had a moment where I can build a strong foundation of my content yet (haven't had any weddings, quinciañeras, etc.) but now that I've heard Taryn's story I'll definitely try to take every single chance available to do my craft and remove the barriers I've put on myself. Keep up the good work guys 🤝

@ThePhotographerMindset6 ай бұрын
Well, I think there is a lot of planning with all of it. Balancing another career, creating packages, proposals, websites. It is more calculated than just going for it with no thought. The takeaway is if you want to create income with photography, and have the skill to do so, you probably can if you create a system and go for it.

Absolutely. Even metal songs still often have base melodies and rhythm. The breakdowns might be a bit harder to adjust for but overall the idea still holds. Also to polyphia: they’re a technical band. Their work already kind of emphasizes an aspect of asymmetrical rhythm. Some of it can definitely be transferred over in a simple form, but it’s not the point for those kinds of bands.

@Tommy6404 no you're totally right, and technically you can play some of their songs on acoustic. And a lot of them you can simplify to play on an acoustic
