I'm curious to know how to integrate family time and vacations into life while running a private practice. Do you need back up staff? Do you use prn staffing agency in order to get some free time?

Good question! Depends on how long the vacation is. If it’s a 1-4 weeks, most clients don’t mind a break. If it’s longer, you might consider hiring a contractor to see clients until you return. Wanting to take vacations isn’t a reason NOT to pursue private practice. It’s a reason TO do it. In what school or hospital could you take a few weeks off? None.

How much does it take to initially start an SLP private practice? I am an SLPA and going to grad school. By the time I graduate in 3 years I feel like it will still be a work in progress. Could I start now and eventually open it once I get my SLP licensure? I would slowly put money into it. TIA!

You can have a private practice without your CCCs but you do need a state license. If you’re private pay it’s fine but some payor sources may require CCCs.

This is an interesting question. I doubt there are legal bars against this, and if you move with enough confidence people won’t question you? Obviously you won’t provide services, but you could manage the administrative/business sides of it I guess
