I have bad time with these. Seems like weather I use a lighter or a little torch or a heat gun, I am burning the wire or insulation or the connector itself before the little nug melts. Of course I never get to use them out in the open, I'm fixing wires on in a harness surrounded by other wires and stuff.

Then the time after that try smearing on the thinnest barely noticeable smear of flux onto your twist before you slide it back over and hit it with heat.

Why did you show the whole video close up, except for the finished result.? Yeah, I thought so.

I really like how you belt the paint scrapper that came with your heat gun to make it into something useful.
@MakingStuff

It actually came with the heat gun, along with 2 other attachments.

I bought an assortment because they *seem* amazing but my results have been mixed. Maybe more practice will yield better results, we shall see.

I just think the term "butt connector" is a funny term, taken out of context.

I started using these for all my wire splices. Throw everything else away, these make all other wire splices obsolete. I interlace the wires a little before doing the twist so that I get more strand-to-strand connection but basically the same process.

I have seen the solder crack in the hot cold cycles of automotive use in the north. This would bond much better since the solder is not between two parallel wires but melted inside the twisted wires. Good tip!

I tihnk they're crap. I prefer a krimp and seal connector any day of the week. However, that extra step you take does make it not quite as awful.

I find pinching the solder to the wire BEFORE heating works MUCH better

This is exactly how I’ve always used them. Just sticking a wire in from each side and heating it never even crossed my mind.

Dude seriously, some people are not qualified to use a spoon. "The soup just keeps running off of it" Not bashing you, just the fact that you have had to make this video is crazy. People who don't know this have ZERO BUSINESS OPERATING A HEAT GUN!!

Most times it creates a cold solder joint. Heat shrink holding them together. They use cheap solder and should NEVER be used on anything but new wire.
@wbforsure2104
@wbforsure2104 19 сағат бұрын
I love these things. I shrink the ends first before I do the middle. That squeezes the solder into the wires instead of outwards

Yeah, I would add some flux to the twisted connection before sliding the connector over it and soldering it.
