The first thing to be accomplished on the path to greatness is never losing inside and then as a lineman becomes more dominant he can win against the outside and bull rush more often too. Early you’ll lose inside, then you’ll lose outside, then you’ll stop losing. Don’t let the losses get to you! Unpadded one on one’s favor the defense heavily in a few ways. They don’t have to worry about the run play or getting double teamed, for one. Their lack of shoulder pads give you less to grab and hold and snatch up. Also the snap count and variances at some camps can be bad compared to the advantage it is with a real offense, not to mention them lining up offsides at almost every camp out there. The QB depth along with it being a stationary object favor the defense and it’s dangerous for tripping on. Not having pads and being able to use them to stop a bull rush favors the defense and makes the risk of head contact high. Bloody noses are expected at unpadded 1v1’s unfortunately. Minimize your early Highschool years exposure to them while still doing some for the experience, and maximize body development, strength and skills until you’re ready to really be recruited. No amount of 1v1 or 5v5 can get you where you need to be recruited in terms of your body and real football skills especially run blocking and understanding the dynamics of pass protection schemes and situational understanding. At the end of the day you need real, good film and that comes from all sorts of preparation.

That happens a lot in high school. Unfortunate but no big deal, In obvious pass situations you can still adjust your 3 point stance to be more ready to pass set but still have your hand down lightly.

@goodmaro2 жыл бұрын
It might help if you added some clips of *bad* technique so we could see the consequence. Like having the puller aim too deep so he can't get that shoulder on the target. Also if you added clips of the defender either getting wise to the trap and squeezing down or being too slow to react so he has to be "dug out" of the hole.

I have a quick question. I play RG and its inside zone right and I have a 3 tech, one on one, would you recommend the gallop step on a solo block?
@lineprofootball76323 жыл бұрын
Great question. If he is in a normal alignment you can take a normal Drive step, but if he is wide you can take a quick square shuffle to close the gap and then drive through him. It has elements of a Gallop but I don’t think OL coaches would refer to it as a gallop.

What is your honest opinion to acclimate having a tackle in a 2 point stance in a run protection? I left tackle and for some reason when I get in my 3 point I feel a little off balance but coming in a 2 point I’m able to push off the ground from the palms of my feet could this mean I’m not properly stanced?
@michaeicapone46943 жыл бұрын
if you’re right handed a 3 point stance will feel weird as a left tackle. The point of a 3 point stance is to make sure you get a lot of knee bend so you can get the proper pad level to drive a defensive lineman back. So don’t worry so much about how much weight you put on the hand, just make sure you take your steps low and aim for the inside of their shoulder pads on the first strike, and bring your hips through. You can still do that in a 2 point, just make sure you are very low and explosive in your stance.

@@screamfornoah I got yall. How you set a nose guard depends on the rush style they are. For my time in college most of the nose guards I faced were bull rush. I was undersized for a center at 5'11 so my counter was to be aggressive as shit. As soon as the ball snapped I shot my free hand and put it on them. Not heavy but just enough to negate the rush a little and track them. Good hand fighting is key at the college level don't get locked into a pass block. Reset you hands inside quick if you have bad leverage. Also some dline get over eager on the bull and will lean heavy. You can feel this as a linemen. What I would do if they did this was take on the pressure then swipe down hard at their arms or inside elbows and scoot back. It's an easy pancake every time and makes them more cautious.
@Larryisalwayssufferinginc.85022 жыл бұрын
@@screamfornoah If they or more of a speed guy patience is key. As a center you want to stone the nose guard but vs a quick guy it is a tall task to ask. What I did was wait for them to pick a side to rush then slide with them while keeping a big chest. This kept me from turning and forced me to slide my feet. Never mirror a dilnemen when they do head fakes. We are fat fucks, d-linemen are always the better athletes you will loose every time. If they do a bunch of head fakes chop you feet be patient and be prepared for them to try and cross your face. For no pads again d-linemen will just try to bull you. Shooting the hand instantly always got me quick victories at highschool camps. Just shoot the free hand be heavy on your inside and force them to rush to one side of the ball. The average highschool level nose has no bag so it should be easy money with good technique.

Only thing I don’t agree with is first step- you do not have to gain ground at that angle
@lineprofootball76323 жыл бұрын
Agreed, some may be able to get better acceleration by stepping in place or slightly behind. This is something I’ve been noticing more lately at the pro level. However most young players’ biggest mistake in getting there is taking a nasty false step. As a center I found getting at least some ground made me most successful in getting there the best.

@@lineprofootball7632 Thanks for the reply! Over about one year I have been looking at football videos on KZbin I think I'm offensive line "running the football" Centric. There is a good video on five-man protection. Maybe I should start learning how the defensive line works that way I could be more well-rounded. Implementing a deep passing game? How to maximum Blitz without giving up the Deep ball? Screen game? I never played a down of organized football but thanks to you too I can get in the clinics and watch videos like yours to make up for a lifetime worth the interest. I first learned of the gallop technique by a video by Sean Bell: Spencer Kibbie is the producer and I think he produced at 5 man protection with Philbin; I can't remember his first name...Joe.. ? Anyway, he was lambasting his tight ends during the clinic while watching the tape and how he was out of control getting to the middle linebacker by stumbling over his own right tackle. If the tight end instead of going out of control was Galloping he could have put the screws of his helmet under the middle linebackers chin. Yours was the only other video I watched that mention Gallup.

Any tips for keeping hands inside when getting out of your stance?
@lineprofootball76323 жыл бұрын
Yes, my favorite tip for this is keeping the offhand, not the down hand, ready, open and loaded inside by the chest so it’s ready to go. Then the other hand can snap up to it. When that hand isn’t ready you will not be as quick to keep it inside. www.lineprotips.com/blg/offensive-lineman-three-point-stance
