I got mine. I used an iPhone charger 5v 2.A and works perfectly. I use it as a CD transport through coax Also have a Pioneer CDJ 800 Mk 2 with coax Tried both. Pl 100. $106 Pioneer 800 Mk 2 ( 15 years old then paid around $800 The pioneer 800 surely sounded better with more lows and a rounded overall sound. The PL 100 lacked that a bit But then for $106 it surely gives excellent value. Question. If the data going out through coax is digital Why is there a difference in sound output The DAC used is the same for both players Thanks 🙏

I have to say having used CD players since the eighties and this little gem called the SMSL PL100 on the market for $105, is the the best buy on the market, if you are looking for a CD transport, its a solidly built unit that deserves a really good DAC and a proper power supply, I am very pleased with its performance after installing it into my system, I just thought the reviews I read here were not quit fair. I Just don't see why anyone should complain about this....long live CD's!

The problem maybe the power supply source. Are you actually using a 5v/2a power supply source? remember it has to be a 5v/2a power supply otherwise, it may not work properly.

I bought 1 and almost return it because the output was inconsistent and jitters.. guess what? Its the power supply. Pump in enough power and it works flawlessly.

I have this player, and for 100 its a bargain . Solid construction decent rca outs, and improvements with digital outs . Its very quiet also .. Seems to me some wouldn't be happy if it was free ..

Look here bucko I tried it all iPad bricks and the lot...at first yeah it was premature to name the the video to your disliking ( lil bi_ch) but I then bought the 5v 2.4 amp brick and same shit so I will be expecting an apology letter by no later then 3:00 p.m. January 27th 2025.

By the way: Are you sure about the Bubbles on the front? I would better unpack the Player properly! When you unpack a Smartphone, you also have a thin plastic sheet on the front, that must be put off before using...OK, not must, but should...lol... All in all, this CD player is a really good device that outplays others for 350. It´s also a first-class CD Transport. Despite that, it has a built-in DAC with a Cirrus logic DAC-Chip, that does MQA! and has a built-in Headphone Amp. So, if you send this back, it´s your fault when you cannot use it. By the way: I cannot fly an F16, but is it the Jet that´s bad? Or am I not able to fly it properly? What do you think lol...

Do you know what type of laser head it uses? I read most are dvd laser heads and therefore not as long lasting as a real CD player laser head. Maybe that's just wrong information I have received.

This Device is really good! You just need the proper Power Supply! A simple Phone charger won´t do it! You need minimum a power supply for a rasperry 5 with 5Volt 2,4A or higher! T0o review with a phone charger is the same as if testing it with shitty music and then claiming that it sounds annoying!

I eventually got the power supply and it did not work so my bad but it was an early video and an early look so take that for what it's worth but it still didn't work sending it back found a Blu-ray player with an optical out for now I'll wait till they figure out the kinks later on down the line

Looks like I had enough power from what the SMSL email said so I bought the 5 volt 2.4 and it still didn't work so sending it back but thanks for the feedback you guys are okay in my book

The way the device bounces around instead of starting correctly is typical for an issue with a weak power supply. The current gets disturbed and fails, then the start process does a go around. Like a plane @ bad landing conditions. But in this case this goes around on and on and on and on.....and on...

You say it's a first look video but you turned it into a negative review on the product without reading the manual or reading the labeling for power source on the unit itself, which takes 2 seconds maybe? Not a good first video man. By the way, knowingly inserting a scratched CD, like you say, is not a good start on your part if you're posting a video of it here. Due diligence before posting? Or just change the title and make it comedic.

Bought the brick it needed still same problem so it seems I was partially right.. I used an iPad brick and a brick that has enough power more than the five 2.4 that they claim I needed plus I bought the brick with the specifications and still it didn't work so I'm sending it back still... I wanted to keep it it's only $100

Yeah it wasn't oversight but I did try using everything I had and in their email from SMSL they went as far as to say an iPad brick would work but it did it I had one quick charging Qualcomm that had enough amperage but it didn't work but the 5 volt 2.4 and still didn't work so I'm sending it back and will purchase again in the future just found a digital out Blu-ray player at the salvation army for six bucks I'll use it for now.

2A is nice, but we better use 2,4A or higher! It´s never bad to provide more power for such a device. That´s an old rule in the audiophile community...The proper power supply does wonders.

Yeah, noob and player guy, from the Nintendo, it was clear. The Audio Guy made a great review, and S.M.S.L. is known for a long time - for excellent budget HiFi audio solutions.

Needs more power my friend! Need to put 5V 2A through a USB C connector and a lot of power supplies won't do that. Raspberry PI 4 power supply puts out 5V at 3 amps and costs 10 GBP.

@@HaitchCastellano It´s better to do this! I have a lot of experience with Power amps and the way they fail due to weak power supplies. Especially the AMPS are important! I own a few boards with proper class D amps with 2x 160W @ 24V and 5A or higher. They play quite well with 3.5A to 4A, but only until I crank up to 75%. As soon as I try to crank up to 11, it starts to transform into a skatman! It plays, but as soon as the dynamic goes up and wants to get louder, the loudness shuts off. Simply nothing comes out of the speaker then! Then, I changed the power supply up to 6A, and the Power Amp runs stable up to level 11 as it should! You can clearly hear when the amp runs out of power! Like a car engine without gasoline...lol

i appreciate you making this video, especially so early after it has been released but cheapaudioman made a video about this cd player too he mentions that it is important to use 5v 2.4a power supply or you will face problems or it will not work correctly maybe this is the problem you faced? also is there not much mention or documentation about using the correct power supply from SMSL? anyways, nice video:)
