i see a lot of people who come from money doing this and promoting this. i worry that those of us that don't have a huge savings or trust fund may not have as easy of a time doing something like this. i love this idea tho and have been searching about doing this. i just have my concerns.

I am an Aupair in my first year and my host kids are just so frustrating. My host parents are not helping me because I asked the mom for advice and she just literally said I should wing it, that's what she does. I have seen how she interacts with them and they disrespect her too. Going to your room or going to the corner wouldn't work because that's not what the parents do. There's no rules when it comes to discipline except for what I shouldn't do like hit them etc. I am thinking of not extending because I spend most of my time with the children and if I can't deal with them I can't deal with having to look after them for another year.

I normally never comment on videos but girl, I feel you. I worked for a vip family in the middle east and had been through the exact same situation you were. It was a different kind of hell and something I would never wish on anyone. I am currently Aupairing in New Jersey, USA. I have enrolled at a school for my master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and I also did a Home Health Aide course and the company has an option for you to get hired by them or find someone else. I told them I can't work for them because of the status of my Visa (J1) but they said they can provide me with an employment letter so I can apply for a work visa so that I can join their company as a Health Aide worker.

Here in the Netherlands it is described exactly what the work of an aupair is. An aupair can also do regular cleaning work at home that does not only belong to the children. light household work is described exactly. Such as cooking, vacuuming, mopping (no more than 30 square meters), doing laundry and tidying up. Cleaning the bathroom that she also uses herself. groceries shopping is also written in it. So before you visit a country, read carefully what is expected of an aupair in that country. In the Netherlands you can have your aupair cleaned (no heavy work of course such as cleaning windows or mopping more than 30 square meters) and do your groceries shopping. However, the housework is not meant to take up more time than the time your Au Pair spends with your children.

As a host family I don’t agree with you saying oh don’t feel grateful they are calling you. Yes it’s not a big deal but don’t for get we do this out of the bottom of our hearts and do not get paid and actually spending money on feeding you and placing a roof over your head. Also it sounds like y’all don’t know anything about this because if you are doing this properly through an agency they answer all the “hard questions” for you.
