Man, after 70 episodes and everything he's seen and been through, Tenma is still as capable of keeping his composure as a 2 year old toddler. A brain surgeon being a wimp is the most unrealistic part of this show. Every surgeon I know could get their guts pumped full of lead from an AK and would just continue looking at you deadpan without a change in their expression. Tenma loses his composure at the smallest possible inconvenience.

So Johan stop to think anymore that he is and his sister are one person if not then doesn't matter who the mother protect

An interesting interpretation I found online: Johan's empty hospital bed could mean a number of things. Of course, the open window nearby seems to suggest that Johan fled and escaped. But the earlier scene where Tenma confronts Johan complicates things. There is a moment where Johan suddenly rises from his slumber to "speak" to Tenma about his mother. But when Johan finishes, Tenma blinks and Johan is once again sleeping. This heavily implies that what Tenma saw was no more than a hallucination. But this begs the question: if Tenma hallucinated Johan speaking to him, who's to say he didn't hallucinate Johan's existence? Perhaps Tenma never saved Johan at all, and he is simply speaking to Johan's corpse, or even an empty bed. And if Tenma didn't save Johan, was it out of his control, or did he allow him to die on purpose? Another interesting interpretation is the one surrounding the nameless monster: His mother had given Johann and Anna names, but Bonaparta took them away from them and Johan only got his from General Wolf, from the book "The Nameless Monster". To this day, no one knows to what extent coma patients can perceive their surroundings: Tenma told him what name his mother had planned, so perhaps the Nameless Monster in Johan has now finally rested!

This scene hurts me so much. Johans scream while taken away from his family kills me everytime. The hardest part is that experiments like this really took place and still are done. Thats so disgusting and breaks my heart…

In Monster, no one is completely bad, everyone is affected by environmental factors, even John The monster also fully highlights the nature of human nature, which is a masterpiece

I know there's Another Monster, but I find the idea that this ending is left open to interpretation kinda perfect. Did he really escape? Or did he kill himself the way he caused kids to kill themselves? Very profound and thought provoking ending.

i think one thing that people miss with this ending is that he’s actually no longer a monster. Because he left a trace of life, the covers messy and the window open.

So according to “Another monster” he’s still in a coma, my big thought is the reason why Johan is shown leaving the bed is When lunge was talking about a person who doesn’t leave a trace at a place is a monster, so I think the idea is to show Johan is no longer a monster

when i first saw this scene i thought Johan was about to pull out a gun and shot Tenma

when i first saw the end i thought that lunge was always right, johan didnt exist, temna was the one who did everything, but now reading the coments and watching the anime again... im still very confused. maybe i was too young when i first read it (15 years old) or maybe i just dont get it at all, but i still love this manga. naoki urasawa was born to make masterpieces.

I was high when i was watching this scene. Lets just say i will never mix gummies and animes ever again.

I think the "monster" in question is a person belief that you don't matter - in that moment when his mother chose him, but then changed his mind, Johan begun to believe that he has no value. He is not a human, he is a monster, and thus, he doesn't fit into human world - in fact, human world has no need of him, which is why he aims to do his "perfect suicide". Johan always messed me up because, like, fuck me man, even if he got better, I don't think he would ever get 100% over his trauma.

Hhmm The only outcome I could think of was Johan actually died. Guy wasn't intubated or had no mechanical ventilator attached to him. He had no nasogastric tube inserted for him to be fed. He was in a coma for a month or more. A big chance he also had muscle atrophy or edema due to long periods of inactivity or lack of nutrients thus giving him a hard time walking or running. He will have to relearn walking through therapy.

He probably start a Fight Club somewhere now that his life doesn't have any purpose anymore

So he committed suicide by jumping off the building

An ambiguous end to a tale with an unclear start... Even with the horrible acts of Johan, this scene of tranquility is amongst the most chilling. Also, Grimmer is the 🐐

Even if Johan changed his ideals and chose a better path, that doesnt excuse the terrible things he did.

In the earlier episodes Lunge said only a monster leaves no evidence behind hear Johan left evidence that he was in that room symbolically meaning hes not a monester anymore

Personally I think that the twins mother knew which twin she sacrificing. She was about to give up Johan but quickly changed her mind! I didn’t like how the series tried to make Franz Bonaparta seem sympathetic. Just because he feels guilty that doesn’t undo all the damage he’s caused! He’s more of a monster than Johan ever was!!

The one thing that really impressed me in this anime was how much i was terrified of Johan whenever i saw his shadow, face or even his feet. There were about 20 episodes where you heard everyone talking about him but we saw him not a single time. And then as we met him again after such a long time i nearly pissed my pants even though ive seen scenes and pictures of him before and i just thought hes handsome.

I really loved how the concept of who lives and who dies was done in this story. Tenma as a genius brain surgeon essentially is a god who decides peoples fates. Similarly to how Johan’s fate was decided by his mother all those years ago. When Tenma saved Johan the first time, he became intrigued with the idea of having someones life at the palm of your hands. In his own sick way Johan decided he was going to follow in his gods (Tenma and his mother) footsteps and be the one who chooses who lives and who dies. Including himself. The only difference being Tenma believes all lives are equal in birth. Johan believes they’re only equal in death.

After watching this anime now i really wonder is darkness truly a colour or .... Simply the absence of light ... Edits: damn ,did i sounded like a philosopher 😂 ..This anime cant be anymore realistic isnt it?
