I just came across your videos, and did a bit of a binge-watch. You came so close to finishing the series !! Aarrgghh !! I'm dyin' over here, LoL ! You did such a great job building the boat (and putting together the videos) - at least put together a walk around (and maybe a sailing video?) to show off the finished product of all those hours. It was great to see that your son (and occasionally your daughter ?) stuck with it and helped you. That'll be a memory he'll keep forever. Cheers !

Thanks sooo much for your comment and for watching. I know .... It has been very difficult to find the time and energy to finish the videos. I still want to. Several excuses - I changed jobs and work more than I used to - and on the computer more so less excited about using downtime on the computer. My father unexpectedly passed and I spend at least one day a week helping my mother. And I bought a Catalina 25 that I'm restoring which takes time as well. But your comment has given me new inspiration. I'll try to get cracking.

@@CnCEndeavors - first off, sorry to hear about your dad. That's got to be a real shock to the system. I totally get it, about having little time to do things with work, family, etc. - I'm working more now than I have in years too. I thought things were supposed to slow down as you age, ha ha ! I'm a car restorer/builder. I'm building one more car for myself (a 63 MGB, similar to my first car) , then I'm building a Weekender. I've never built a wood boat (or any boat for that matter) , I've never sailed a boat (except for time with my dad as a single-digit kid in his Sunfish-type boat), but I think it'll be a neat project. My dad bought plans and wanted to build it, but never did. I live 750 miles away, so I was no help, and my brother who lives a few miles from him had zero interest. He's built tons of neat things in his life, and I'm sure the boat would've been an awesome build back then, but he's in his 80s now, so that ship has sailed (pun intended). I think taking his plans and building it would be a good homage to my old man. I was searching for inspiration, and I found it in your videos. Thanks for posting them - keep enjoying life, and don't forget to take time for yourself Cheers !

I’ve been thinking about building my own soon in the future and I was wondering about how much did all the materials cost?
@CnCEndeavors2 жыл бұрын
When I built it, materials were much cheaper. I also used all local hardware store wood instead of more expensive stuff. In the end I spent about $2500 for wood, epoxy, fiberglass, sails, running rigging, standing rigging, blocks, etc. I also spent an additional $1600 on the trailer. But the best part was I spent $350 here and $100 there - so I didn't need a large sum up front. Hope that helps.

Fantastic work. I'm considering building one myself, and have enjoying your channel to gain insight on the building process. I look forward to it's completion and overall thoughts once it hits the water. This boat seems fairly easy to build (relatively speaking to one's wood working ability) and cost effective. I've always wanted to learn how to sail, but the entry price has held me back... this seems like a fun way to combine my woodworking hobby and desire to get involved in sailing. I'm subscribed and looking forward to updates. PS: I'm also from Georgia. You planning to sail this boat on Lanier?
@CnCEndeavors2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words, the comment, and your subscription. I too wanted to sail and was held back some by costs. I joined the lake Lanier sailing club, took classes, and started sailing on club boats. The cost effective thing was relative. In the end, I could have bought a beater, but it allowed me to spend money on the boat in small increments rather than all at once. And truth be told, I fell in love with the building process. It is one of the most fulfilling activities I've ever done. Since the launch (in Feb of 2020), I've done a ton of racing at the club as crew on other people's boats which has greatly accelerated my sailing learning. I do sail my boat on lake Lanier. Happy to show her off sometime if you find yourself at the lake. After building the boat, I moved to a smaller house, and have to store the boat at a different location, which can make the logistics of getting on the water in my boat more difficult. I'm looking forward to finishing the build vids and doing more vids on my adventures. I highly recommend you build one! See you out there!
@LittleBouddha942 жыл бұрын
@@CnCEndeavors I understand how one could easily fall in love with the building process. Something about getting on the water with something you personally handcrafted sounds enormously rewarding. Even if the build vs buy beater sailboat price was identical, I'd learn towards the build option uniquely from the satisfaction of the building process. I greatly appreciate your offer to come check out the boat and I'll keep that in mind! I live near the lake Allatoona area and very seldomly visit Lanier, I just guessed you'd sail that lake due to the proximity from Lawrenceville. That being said, if I seriously pursue the Stevenson design, I'll make the trip out! I'm currently weighing several design options now, Stevenson Weekender and Glen L Minuet being the primary. I'd love to hear your feedback on the boats performance when that video comes along.

I went back and recently reviewed thee footage and now that I know more (though still learning), I noticed several "user errors". No matter what I say on that video - I was wrong. Mostly yes, I'm following the plans. There are a few times where I don't use the plans and I have to guess how it should be done - for things like the benches and the cabin top and the tiller. But everything else is according to how it was drawn up in the plans.
@jimyurasits42093 жыл бұрын
@@CnCEndeavors Thank you for this video series! I have the Weekender plans, and your video has allowed me to understand some things I had questions about. As far as the cabin top, did you raise the height from the plans? Also, what made you decide to go with the square front? Again, thanks for all of the work you put into recording the build.
@CnCEndeavors3 жыл бұрын
@@jimyurasits4209 Thanks so much for your kind comments. I did make three adjustments. Internally, I made the openings on the companion way bulkhead that lead to the "quarter birth" storage lockers slightly larger, I added 2.5 inches to the top of that same bulkhead and I added those same 2.5 inches to the mast so I could raise the goose neck and boom to account for the cabin top height. It also raised the boom a bit out of your face. It's still quite low, but according to the plans it is damn near at your armpits while sitting on the bench. Hope that makes sense.
@jimyurasits42093 жыл бұрын
@@CnCEndeavors Yes it does make sense! The 2.5 inches you raised it does not detract from the design, like some builders I have seen. Others have raised it 4 inches and that makes it look top-heavy. I think your widening the companionway also helps with the look. The plans call for the rounded front part of the cabin to be bent into place. How did you come up with the size of that front panel? It looks great, by the way, and I love the idea of an extra porthole in the front. I noticed you created a scale model that you show in your videos. That is a great idea for showing how your final boat is going to look. I am a little worried about room in the cabin. I don't plan on sleeping overnight much, but am more concerned about creating an area where my grandkids, wife and children can occasionally use the portable head in privacy. Is that doable? Maybe with an additional pop-up canopy cover? So it sounds like from reading the comments that you have finished the Weekender and have been sailing it. Is that right? Will you be posting sailing vids also?
@CnCEndeavors3 жыл бұрын
@@jimyurasits4209 as far as the front panel on the cabin, I actually used my scale model and scaled up the measurements. Then I templated with cardboard to verify, made some minor adjustments, and transferred to wood. As far as the cabin, I don't know if you could have a comfortable porta head in there. I'm 5'8" and can sit up in the cabin, lay down in the cabin, but I wouldn't be able to sit on something like a bucket in there. I have camped in it - I designed and sewed cushions. It was quite cozy but comfortable. For a private porta head, I put a boom tent over the cockpit area (while the boom was raised using the topping lift) and used the tent covered cockpit space for the more private porta head space, which worked quite well. If you don't think you'll use or want the cabin, you can always build the skipjack version and just have a large open area. As for the build, yes I'm finished and I do have sail vids coming. Thanks for your comments and questions!
