How much responsibility does the FDA need to take for lke of public warning and education for Fetal Alcohol syndrome?

Justin Shepherd! So weird to see you and watch you as a man as opposed to when we were just goofy teenagers!! lol! I haven't seen you in 27ish years! lol. What a neat and meaningful project that you have spear headed here. I'd love to connect and catch up! Dustin Doll (from high school back at Sherwood).

Thank you for mentioning the lack of knowledge /awareness of fasd in adults, this is frustrating when trying to learn about yourself at 32

Please please please do not stop this pages potential growth, KZbin has sooo much opitunty to help spread the awareness needed, please make more videos and if you could make some around adult life and what it's like as I am 32 and starting to research it myself after living with it and just thinking "it doesn't define me".. Sadly it does.. I've come far and done great but at a time when thinking about having kids comes into my life... I'm seriously doubting I could handle it with a full time job. Thank you for helping spread the word

We are working on showing individual stories of discovery of their own FASD diagnosis, and the range of how different it looks among people, yet with clear common patterns, and with a message of needing to support those with this, rather than the prevention message that was echoed by those interviewed in the present film.

Saturday Night Live NEEDS to issue a public apology. Watching that was horrific. Such moronic humour. If they don't apologise at the very least it speaks volumes about their attitude towards disabilities.

Question: if they didnt include the punchline, would you have known the character's condition? Im learning about this now. So...if its just a caricature and it doesn't fit shouldn't we all be receiving educational points to learn how really a person with FASD would act? Maybe frame by frame? And call it an ignorant portrayal of a real condition? I would like to know more.

You are correct Manuel- people would not think of FASD after watching the SNL character. FASD is not related in anyway to the undesirable characteristics the SNL character exhibited. FASD is a spectrum, so it can look different from person to person. The SNL sketch was making fun of someone for looking/being different, and then attributed it to drinking while pregnant. People with FASD experience a range of brain, behavior, cognitive, physical and mental health challenges - and in many different combinations and degrees of severity. A good place to start is with the 16 minute short documentary in the description of this post - this short was made for people who do not know what FASD is. Thank you for your interesting comment!

For me I was lucky because my biological mother was already being watched for it because they knew she was drinking alcohol. It was after my second siezure around 2 years also where I was officially diagnosed. Where they looked for indicators. I was diagnosed With FASD ARND I had developmental delays, and I have memory issues. I have Vision hearing, and sensory issues. I struggle with memory Retaining and learning disabilities.I am lucky it hasn't affected me as much of others because it very well could of. For me it wasn't ever anything talked about. They instead said it was ADHD but I believe... It's possible that many diagnosed with ADHD. May possibly have FASD. And are misdiagnosed because of the stigma. Its something to think about.

Does FASD prevent people from changing the channel?
@kristinashepherd5378
@kristinashepherd5378 2 жыл бұрын
Carol - I know you’re just trying your best to be funny, but the reality is that drinking in pregnancy was the punch line. No one watching that would know drinking in pregnancy was about to be a punch line for a collection of undesirable characteristics in the child that literally have nothing to do with FASD. So you could change the channel after watching that punchline, but the damage has already been done. Does that make sense? Unless….FASD includes psychic abilities?! That study has not been conducted yet but maybe Carol knows something we don’t….

As a person with ARND spectrum with FASD, I just hope people still understand not everyone will get involved with the criminal system. This is of course depending on the severity of FASD. I never dropped out of school, have any criminal record... always been a nice fun bubbly person.. mostly struggle with math, certain words using in speech, can't drive or work an actual job etc... so I have my own personal job. And there is differnt forms of FASD that isn't mentioned in the film... of course there is soo much about FASD, makes sense you can't all fit it in a short film.. but only just to start the conversation.. There is alot of people out there tho that have no clue they are pregnant and drinking until like 20 weeks In... so I guess this means to not drink any alcohol at all if you are sexually active ?

This project is so amazing and important! Everyone should be aware that there is no safe amount of alcohol during pregnancy. That pregnant women with addiction issues should not be stigmatized and should be supported in recovery. That individuals with FASD and those that care for/about them deserve to be seen, heard and supported!
