My family member is getting an operation later this year. We've been watching videos to get ready for the experience. She is scared. She is MAD. But she refuses to go through it without educating herself first. This is the best one we've seen. We absolutely love you. There are a bunch of edited and re-edited videos of bag changes that are so clean and organized it appears to be magical. Lots of suppliers sponsor clean, calm, 'easy' videos. This was reality-based and honestly much more useful. This one has heart. We love that you're flustered and nervous (and angry?) but it is what it is and and something has to be done about it so you just work through it. Awesome!

1. Purchase precut bags the size of your stoma. 2. Use gauze pads to wipe with. Comes 200 4x4 size, use to clean with and catch stool with, disposable and sanitary. 3. Use spray skin barrier. 4. Use wipes unscented to clean the area after the adhesive removal. If you don’t clean the adhesive removal off your skin, your new bag won’t stick. I change my bag while sitting on the closed toilet with a lined garbage in front of me. Any mishaps drip into the garbage can.

Try a soft convex pouch for the colostomy. Also some pouches allow more per month than others. Call the production companies like Hollister, Convatec and Coloplast and ask for samples of soft convex-specifically HCPCS # 5056 and # 5057. You can get up to 40/ month of those.

You can use a tampon without the applicator in your urostomy to absorb urine while you are trying to dry the skin. Stick it in about 3/4 inches- dry your skin- quickly remove the tampon and then place the pouch. Thanks for sharing!

I think you are doing great, but you might want to try a different type of pouch. You can contact Convatec, Hollister, Coloplast and Marlén. They are all makers of Ostomy products. They usually have specialists you can can talk to and the will send free samples. I think a soft convex pouch or a thin Ostomy ring could help protect your peristomal skin better.

You need help doing this because that powder you can put a barrier around it and it will help from the poop getting onto your skin because what it is that you got a really bad diaper rash plus you got that stoma is not supposed to look like that and definitely it should not hurt like that the stoma doesn't have any feeling so something's wrong go to the doctor

Do you still have both and if you do I can figure they are permanent and that would be tiresome, but definitely beat the alternative for sure.

I would put hydrocortisone cream on my sore areas and try to sit without a bag as long as possible ( keeping tissues & plastic trash bags nearby). Then I wiped it off very gently before I began my skin prep, which did include crusting. I had a fistula next to my stoma and had to cut a hole in my wafer to include that too. I also just changed my bag every other day until it cleared up. Now after I clean around the stoma, the first step in my skin prep is to use calamine spray all the way around my stoma and let that dry.
