@65SATisfaction 6 ай бұрын
Well, you’re not wrong... the 318 in your Satellite was indeed a factory engine option for the ‘65 model year. The only detail you’re not remembering is that the 318 is a V8, not a 6. The “Slant Six” engines available for certain ‘65 Mopars were 170 or 225 cubic inches, but they were not an option for Satellites. Cheers!

LOL - Grazie Marco! I hope you realize this video is 10 years old.. Our Bora has been maintained, problems repaired, and continues to enjoy an active life on the roads it was intended to travel.. We shipped the Bora across the Atlantic to Norway last summer and drove to the Maserati International Rallye in Båstad, Sweden. The Bora needed some attention underway, but was not difficult to repair and enjoyed a day racing on the Anderstorp F1 track.. The Bora is now back with us in the US for many more miles of pleasure driving.. That's quite a good life for a "poor" Bora, I think. :-)

@65SATisfaction
@65SATisfaction Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question.. I’m not sure of the answer. It has some suspension squeaks.. Your description seems like the squeak a constant sound? Could it be the rattle of the timing chains? But I offer this: The camera and microphone are mounted *in* the engine bay, so it’s picking up every kind of noise that emanates from the rear: The engine, belts, accessories, transmission and suspension. To me, the most prominent sound is from the timing chains, then the belts and accessories add to the noise. I’d like to say any squeak is probably a rubber suspension bushing.. See if that might fit what you’re sensing. But if you relate it to a belt.. then I’m not sure. There is no polyurethane in the suspension. Cheers!

Thanks, yes, the Glen is likely to be a good match for the Bora's qualities, but I've not found any track days there that let me do what I want with it on the full course. Maybe I need to look harder. However - this June I took the Bora out on the full Anderstorp F1 track and it was friggin incredible. It transitioned surprisingly well to throttle-on oversteer and wasn't hard to control through the exit. It didn't feel unstable or on the threshold of snapping the rear around, which I've been told to be watchful for. Maybe it's the Pirellis vs the OEM XWXs, but suffice to say it was an absolute blast and I'd do it again. The lovely blonde I had along for the ride was fun too.

Hello Timo! You are thinking of the word ‘accumulator’ as an electric battery. That’s very European :-), but not accurate. Remember that Citroen bought Maserati in 1969. Maserati’s Chief Engineer decided to use the Citroen hydraulic system for the brakes, and some other functions. So the Bora, Merak, Khamsin and Indy, all received some Citroen hydraulic systems. The Citroen system is powered by a high pressure compressor which pressurizes three pressure accumulators. Cheers!

Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Now they even want to slow down all the gas pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime. Called Bundesabgasbespaßungsverordnung :-(

This engine has a dry sump, right?
@65SATisfaction
@65SATisfaction 2 жыл бұрын
Good question! .. I was just pondering that this evening.. Answer: The Bora’s 4.7 or 4.9* engines are conventional wetsump. The earlier Ghibli and the contemporary Khamsin are drysump engines. I’m not sure about the Indy, but I’ll guess it’s drysump, because it’s a front-engine layout like the Ghibli and Khamsin. Cheers! *All US Boras are 4.9. PS - I speculate, if the Boras got drysumps, maybe the center of the main crank would be too low for the rear ZF transmission? It’s the same transmission as the Ford GT40, and DeTomaso Mangusta & Pantera. Do any of those have drysump engines.?
@thethirdman225
@thethirdman225 2 жыл бұрын
@@65SATisfaction Interesting. I wonder why they went to the wet sump, though I get your point about the transaxle. I’m not sure it would normally stop the manufacturer using it. Thx for the question, I’m driving on Pirelli CN12 Cinturatos from Longstone Tyres in the UK, who offer an assortment of freshly manufactured OEM tires for many vintage cars. The Cinturatos have very good feel, stability and gentle, controllable breakaway characteristics on track. The Bora had Pirelli P4000s when I bought it, and I was plenty happy with those, but they aged out and aren’t offered. I’ve bought Vredestein Sprint Classics for our Khamsin, and am also happy with them, though haven’t driven them at their limits as I have the Bora. I’ve never driven on XWXs (except carefully on some very old ones), but hear they aren’t ideal compared to other choices. Cheers!

Hey Ed, fuel starvation was solved with a Holley fuel pump. I forget what GPM capacity it has, but I installed a fuel pressure gauge in the engine bay, visible from the cockpit, after the fuel filter/regulator. This allowed me to verify the fuel starvation issue (pressure dropped to zero). I left the gauge in place to provide that extra peace of mind when I see 2.5psi on the gauge before I start up. Coincidentally, I’m at Newark Airport on my way to Oslo. We had our Bora shipped there in advance. Upon arrival in Norway, I’ll pick it up and it drive to the Maserati International Rally in Sweden at the end of the month. Cheers!

So I’m the steering whine, I couldn’t hear it. Did it do it at parking lot speeds? Was it silent with the new rack? The 164 I picked up is noisier than I think it should be. Impending rack problem? I can’t find any leaks to the ground, but the fluid was down or below the minimum line when I got it. I filled it up and it hasn’t moved. Thanks.
@65SATisfaction
@65SATisfaction 2 жыл бұрын
First - I think you are OK if there is no loss of power steering fluid since you filled the reservoir, and there are no drips under the car. You can see the puddle of fluid on the floor of my garage at the beginning. Right at the 7:23 mark, you can hear a steering 'whine' that is different from the 'whirr' of the ZF automatic.. that is the sound of air in the power steering compressor, indicating a low fluid level has le air in, and possibly a leak. If your power steering level was low enough to have allowed air into the system, the system will bleed the air out automatically after you filled your reservoir. You bleed the air out by starting the car, and slowly turning the steering wheel full left and full right, and don't push the steering wheel hard when you get to the steering limits. Sometimes a steering rack leak can be contained inside the rubber steering bellows, but that will only hold the fluid in until it is full. If you have a leak, it will find a way to drip. Any more questions, just ask. Cheers!
