How sad is this, yet most of us have done it at some point in our time with horses. Time, time is the problem. People want instant gratification versus taking the time with their horse. Thank you, this is so good.

You are going to love this, one way horses thought are directed has always been with spurs. Spurs are not just used for making horse go fast, but to make them pay attention. Kind of like a slap up side the head for a person. But understand this is not the most enlightened way but sometimes it is the most expediant.

Beautiful video Anna, wonderful commentary too. I agree food is not a great reward when horse training, as compared to dogs or other predators. Makes sense when you think about the role food plays in their life. I would however say it is important to consider the nature of the horses digestive system and how it is optimised for trickle feeding and research has shown as little as 15 mins without food can cause a build up of stomach acid that can increase the risk of stomch ulcers due to splashing of the acid on the upper part of the stomach. Longer training sessions 15 mins plus should include regular additions of either a handful of grass or hay, or a few haycobs just to keep them comfortable from a digestive point of view. We want training to be based on relaxation both mentally and physically, horses need food going through the system for that physical comfort and relaxation. I dont see it as a few reward, just a species specific requiement for optimal training and health. Thanks again, i think yourre great and would love to come and watch you work. Im in East Devon and am just diving down the horse training rabbit hole, so am keen to work with as many modalities and trainers as possible.
