I never got to do this. My mother gifted all my childhood books (mostly Nancy Drew and the Hardy) boys to a school when I was 16, i got home, and my shelves were absolutely empty. I was devastated for weeks and by the time it no longer popped to mind regularly at 18 I had an 11 year old approach me at my school going "are you the Katja whose name is in so many books at x school?" I felt like a minor celebrity 😂

Check out Starless by Jacqueline Carey. I remember it being very normative. The Locked Tomb series also people jumping bodies /genders all over the place
@tandemcollectiveАй бұрын
Thanks so much, will definitely check these out! Immortal Longings by Chloe Gong also has body/gender jumping if you enjoy that world element 🧡

JC’s Kushiel books are up there also. The guiding principle of the country it mainly takes place in is Love as though Wilt. Though not really queer normative some of Heinleins books have marriage as a civil contract to raise children. So there are many forms, from today’s nuclear to large poly groups.

Martha Wells writes mostly queer normative worlds - I'm surprised you went with Witch King instead of Murderbot or Raksura
@tandemcollectiveАй бұрын
Ah, to be honest I’ve only read Witch King, but Murderbot and Raksura are on my TBR. Great to hear they’re also queer normative! Which one should I read first?
@ravenesperanzaАй бұрын
@@tandemcollective I would go with Murderbot. I love both series, but Murderbot is such a great character. :)

SPOILER ALERT . . . . Don't worry, it wasn't any sort of smut scene at all. Violet had dislocated her shoulder during an incident. She asked Dain to put her shoulder back in. Then, he uses his belt as a temporary sling for her arm. Later, she pulls the "belt sling" aside so that she could use her arm to wield lightning. This is when the line comes up.

Hi Jenny! Great recommendations, I love them all! I will just briefly correct your language: we don't "HAVE autism", we ARE autistic. It's such an integral part of our personalities, that we usually prefer identity-first language. Using the label “autistic person” is seen as a symbol of pride amongst many in the community. You mainly did REALLY well, but I wanted to point it out anyway. Thanks for the video though! xx Lottie
@tandemcollective3 ай бұрын
Hi Lottie, thank you so much for letting us know about this important linguistic distinction! We'll do our absolute best to use this language in our future content. We're so glad you enjoyed the recommendations! xxx

No! No no no. I want my money back. So disappointed. I just wanted someone to tell me the ending and stop the tiresome ruminating hashing over the same info without any true character development. It had such potential but just turned into an academic, self-congratulatory bore.
