There are no morals in the pharmaceutical industry, it is all about profits, which Dr's cannot practice if they go against the pharma's doctrine. the medical people have not cured/healed anything since the Second World War. Cures/healing are abundant for cancer victims. We only have to look at the last four years to show how pharma' has deceived the world into thinking Dr's know best. Another well-known saying, "Physician heal thine self".

Religion should not be a basis for refusing medical care, if you won’t practise for the good of the patient, don’t practice.

33:00 that was beautifully put . We should have kept abortion and. Assisted suicide out of medicine It is strange how we categorize things with tunnel vision and the way we see anything w the body as mainly same field of medicine

Anyone could morally act and do the right things. Religion has killed over time more than all diseases put together. Christian killed anyone who did not agree with them. Study history of mental disorders that people were burned because they thought they were possessed. They scales were drilled to let the evil or devil out. They burned many scientist or hash them. Read what they did with scientists. This man cherry picking bias. The worth kind of science. He is gone to court by himself he should face people like Steven Hawkins to have his mind and words fixed I feel sorry for people fall for his cherry picking misinformation. Shameful science.

Hippocratic Oath I swear by Apollo the physician, and Asclepius, and Hygieia and Panacea and all the gods and goddesses as my witnesses, that, according to my ability and judgement, I will keep this Oath and this contract: To hold him who taught me this art equally dear to me as my parents, to be a partner in life with him, and to fulfill his needs when required; to look upon his offspring as equals to my own siblings, and to teach them this art, if they shall wish to learn it, without fee or contract; and that by the set rules, lectures, and every other mode of instruction, I will impart a knowledge of the art to my own sons, and those of my teachers, and to students bound by this contract and having sworn this Oath to the law of medicine, but to no others. I will use those dietary regimens which will benefit my patients according to my greatest ability and judgement, and I will do no harm or injustice to them. I will not give a lethal drug to anyone if I am asked, nor will I advise such a plan; and similarly I will not give a woman a pessary to cause an abortion. In purity and according to divine law will I carry out my life and my art. I will not use the knife, even upon those suffering from stones, but I will leave this to those who are trained in this craft. Into whatever homes I go, I will enter them for the benefit of the sick, avoiding any voluntary act of impropriety or corruption, including the seduction of women or men, whether they are free men or slaves. Whatever I see or hear in the lives of my patients, whether in connection with my professional practice or not, which ought not to be spoken of outside, I will keep secret, as considering all such things to be private. So long as I maintain this Oath faithfully and without corruption, may it be granted to me to partake of life fully and the practice of my art, gaining the respect of all men for all time. However, should I transgress this Oath and violate it, may the opposite be my fate. Translated by Michael North, National Library of Medicine, 2002.

No evidence was provided by the lecturer that the Germans were killing the disabled, ect.. Though he did mention, ironically the danger of believing lectures who say things with confidence. That they dont really think about what they say, but are readily believed.

It was quite literally in the book he mentioned, in reference to the approach of doctors in Germany, and their approach to eugenics. No quote/reference verbatim, but it was implied that the information can be found in such book that substantiates what he's talking about.

I find most of the arguments here largely uninteresting. Many seem to boil down to "Well obviously it would be this way". With respect, it seems like conjecture. With that said I appreciate the perspective, much of what was said, and I don't want to just say it's invalid. Instead I will give my perspective. I personally don't believe in judgement after death, but my self respect and happiness and sense of fulfillment are largely based on the good I do and my understanding of whether I'm acting in a way that the world would be better off if more acted that way. I like doing a good job and I want to see the world better by the time I die. I know multiple people that have been molested by people of devout faith. I have seen no correlation in my personal life between those of faith (or belief in judgement after death) and what I believe is virtuous behavior. Maybe there are just lots of fakes out there. Like I said, I don't want to invalidate. Morals are very important, especially in health care, and maybe there is some important value in this belief in judgement after death that would make me a better doctor if I were to become one. This could be true, but I'm not convinced after watching this. The importance of morals and philosophy and not lost on me, but this talk has a lot of religious claims backed by very specific perspectives.

By the way, transcripts of the Nuremberg medical trial are online, anyone can look it up and see that Nazi medical personnel was referring to not only them obeying orders (as Dr. Patrick claims), but also, to the Hippocratic Oath. It's just that they had a different interpretation...

However, Ancient Greek people in general did not believe in life after death, eternal bliss or damnation the same way Christians do. There were also different mysteries, cultic religions which promised eternal bliss for their initiates only, but the majority of Greece believed only in a dim vision of the underworld where the spirits of dead reside as ghosts without pain or pleasure. So Dr Patrick operates on a mistaken premise here. The Hippocratic Oath might have been composed and used by such a little cult as I have just mentioned, a group of initiates of Asclepius, but that is another matter to discuss.

I am a student of International Business, Master's. Was asked to watch this lecture as a homework. I am truly grateful that my professor asked us watch this. The last bit of it, i am truly confused if its better to be jack of all and master of none? Because that banker example got me thinking, does our biases makes us have a myopic view of things and not look that the broader picture?
