It's truly a blessing for SGVers to have such an amazing business with several locations around. Do shop at any Claro's if you haven't yet, you'll love it for sure!

When I was young back in the eighties, my family went to this mall. It had the big retail stores like Robinson May and later Macys. A bookstore, and I think a movie theater. Now, its mostly no name stores, and food courts. I don't think the original mall had any food places back then. I had good memories of this place. I drive by it a lot, but haven't been inside for a while.

The Panorama Mall in Panorama City CA opened in 1955, with The Broadway as the mall's initial anchor store. The mall was originally open air when it first opened. By 1961, the mall gained two additional anchor stores, J.W. Robinson's and Montgomery Ward. In 1964, the mall opened another anchor store, Ohrbach's. In 1979, Panorama Mall was transformed into an enclosed mall. In the 1980's, both Ohrbach's and J.W. Robinson's closed as a result of the mall declining. The former J.W. Robinson's store was demolished and replaced with a new shopping center with a Food 4 Less supermarket. The former Ohrbach's store was replaced with the Valley Indoor Swap Meet. In 1996, The Broadway closed its Panorama Mall store as a result of Macy's buying The Broadway's parent company Broadway Stores Inc in 1995. The old Broadway building was transformed into a Walmart store, which opened in 1998. The Walmart store in Panorama Mall is the chain's first ever multi-leveled Walmart store that opened in the USA. Around that same year, furniture, electronics, and appliances retailer La Curacao opened its store at the mall, adding a new anchor store to the mall. In 2001, Montgomery Ward went out of business, closing down all stores nationwide including the Panorama City store. The old Wards building is still sitting vacant, with its exterior logo signs still intact. However, plans came that the old Wards building will be demolished into a residential and mixed-use development.

The Stonewood Center Mall in Downey CA opened in 1958, with JCPenney as the mall's initial anchor store. The original Stonewood Center Mall opened as an open air mall. In 1965, the mall gained its second anchor store, The Broadway, opening on the mall's east side. In 1969, JCPenney built its newer and larger present day store on the mall's northwest side. In 1981, the mall opened its third anchor store on the mall's north side, Mervyn's. In 1990, the mall underwent major renovations, transforming the once open air mall into its present day enclosed mall. In that same year, the mall gained its fourth anchor store, May Company, opening on the mall's south side. In 1993, the mall's May Company store became Robinsons-May as a result of the May Company chain merging with the J.W. Robinson's chain. In 1996, The Broadway closed its Stonewood Center store as a result of Macy's buying The Broadway's parent company Broadway Stores Inc in 1995. Instead of the mall's Broadway store rebranding as Macy's, the store was sold to Sears. By November of 1996, Sears opened its Stonewood Center store on the old Broadway building. The Sears store's automotive center opened in 2002. In 2006, the mall's Robinsons-May store morphed into Macy's, after Macy's bought Robinsons-May's parent company May Department Stores Company in 2005. That change finally brought Macy's to the Stonewood Center Mall. In 2009, Mervyn's went out of business, closing down all stores including the Stonewood Center store. The mall's former Mervyn's store reopened as a Kohl's store later that same year. In 2021, Sears closed its Stonewood Center store due to the chain's ongoing struggles, which the old Broadway/Sears building is currently sitting vacant. The departure of Sears from Stonewood Center Mall left Macy's, JCPenney, and Kohl's as the mall's remaining anchor stores.
