Ive been riding street bikes since I was 17, at 17 first trip was from Iron River, WI to Spokane, Wa. to Eureka, Redding Ca then to Salt Lalk City up to Sturgis and home. 2.5 weeks 5,000 on a Yamaha Maxim 750. My mom rode a Sportster dad had a Electra Glide. 2 other couples came with. Only bike to break down was my dads in Minot,ND for 3 days. Being a HOG member they got us back on the road ASAP. Had a hard wiring issue to find. 2 years ago I flew down to FL and bought a used '17 Limited and rode it to Nashville where my wife and step daughter flew into. I didnt want her on the back through Atlanta with me, I tell ya what that is a fun way to buy a bike! I enjoy riding more than my wife but she still goes and i love all the extra room with the big bike and Infotainment system. I got 14,000 miles on it and new tires planning on a long trip for next summer maybe to the SW or NE US. Enjoy- watch for those damn deer!

Great video and explanation! I'm also an "older japanese bike" kind of guy, but really considering an Electra Glide..looking at the '08-'13 years mostly. Currently riding a '74 CB550 (which is great around town, but my wife doesn't like being on it and it really isn't set up for even solo touring), and a '97 GL1500. The Goldwing is great for passenger comfort and we've done some trips on it, but it feels a little too much like a car if that makes sense. I've done a few rides on friends' Harleys, and I think it might really be the sweet spot of 2-up touring comfort/capability, while still feeling like a motorocycle. It was nice to hear your opinions "as a motorcyclist", and not just from the perspective of a traditional Harley guy. Ride safe!

My son just got one. Runs good. I rode it keeping in in first. But when he rode it, he up-shifted and could not get it back down. Neutral light is broken too, so we can't tell when in neutral. It has fresh oil and hasn't been flooded, but it could still be sticking. The clutch is acting like it is stuck too, at least a little. After my son fell (he's okay, bike has minor damage), I rode it back with the clutch pulled in all the way, and the bike was still moving. Anyway, we have some adjusting and learning to do. I hope it's just stuck from sitting a while.

Never had anything good to say about my Harley’s despite the fact I had them for 20 years and never had any issue with them. Ever. Welp, I recently got a Yamaha Zuma 50 with a big bore kit. I am looking for a beginner motorcycle to go along with my scooter. I want one with a passenger seat. Specifically looking for a Rebel 250 CMX250 or a Virago 250 the XV250S. I am 5'2" tall. What do you recommend for a beginner bike? Coming from mopeds and motorized bicycles. I'm just looking to ride pretty much every day as long as it's not raining. My commute is about 10-20 minuets. I don't want any thing fancy but I want something to get my class M on. So is it better to get a bike that's decommissioned from a safety course? I am sure they took care of it. Have a nice day- W
@sixfive0cycle
@sixfive0cycle 5 ай бұрын
I would suggest not getting one from a training program, they lead a hard life! The XV250 is a great beginner bike, it doesn't have much for a passenger. I enjoyed this bike as a commuter, hard to beat 75mpg!
@Outback69
@Outback69 5 ай бұрын
@@sixfive0cycleso stay away from that kind of bike. Is the rebel 250 really that bad? I heard people hate it because of the ride quality but they are both decent machines. How long do you think I would get out of my Zuma once rebuilt? Needs lots of cosmetic repairs but couldn't complain about 120MPG either. Especially with the way this economy is going. I was looking at cars, you can't find a good one. Would it be best for me to find a non running machine and get it working? I heard that's the best way to go. What years are best for the Virago 250? The Zuma is a prebug from 98 good looking bike just a lot of cosmetic problems. Brake booster came apart and fluid leaked down all over the plastics of the bike.
@sixfive0cycle
@sixfive0cycle 5 ай бұрын
@@Outback69 I don't know anything about the scooters. My issue with rebels is the size, I'm 5'10 and it feels really small. The virago offers a little bit more room to stretch out on.

Ok, thanks for the information I will look into it. Are 125's harder to find or not much? I just want a bigger bike to go along my smaller bike that's all. Does not got to be fancy at all. So the Yamaha is a bit better bike over all I am guessing. Honda is shorter. I fit on a Rebel 350 pretty well but would like to sit on a 250 just to see if I can do it. I am just looking for a motorcycle with no frills really. Thanks- WS

I feel that there is more going on in this comment than just motorcycles! Let me address that as best I can: I have been married to the same woman for 34 years and it will be a lifetime more, she is not getting "traded in". Ever!! There are many amazing motorcycles in the world and it would be a shame to not experience them! It seems like I trade out bikes every 3.years or so. I don't consider it a bad thing, I like experiencing new bikes. They are material things and provide me with a new riding experience. I have loved every bike I have owned but they pale in comparison to the amazing woman I married!

In Indianapolis dryer cycle sales is practically the first Honda dealership . I went to a bike auction there probably more than 20 years ago and bought a stock original 78 CX500 that was the first year they made them and the only body style . I was under the impression they did not sell 650 in the United States . Anyway I didn't know a single thing about the cx. I just like the looks of the bike . It didn't run probably not for years and I paid $250 . I replaced the clutch , brakes , rear tire , handlebars , and did a bunch of custom paint . It got stolen , and about a year later I got a call from the police saying they located my bike where it was abandend . It cost me $160 to get it out of an impound yard . It looks like perfect condition the but the motor was locked up . Now it just sits with the 10 other bikes I own . Now at 68 years old I'm actually afraid to ride because the traffic is so bad where I live .

Great video on a good bike. I have a 440 also. It quits at random while riding...like just turning off the key. Hard to get it started again. When it quit I checked for spark and had none. But after 10 minutes or so the bike would fire right back up. Run good for maybe 2 or 3 miles then quit again and again. I replaced the coil and igniter but no change. Went through the fuel system. No dirt or rust found. Checked the wiring plugs and connectors and no change. I then bypassed the ignition and kill switches thinking that maybe the ignition switch was going bad and ran 12v right straight to the coil from the battery and still the bike quits. The only thing I haven't replaced is the pickup coil down at the end of the crankshaft. Hope I don't have to take off the carbs...Pain getting that air box out.
