On creating technology with no market yet, I wonder why Philips, which developed the first smartphone, failed while Nvidia succeeded.

14:40 When you start a company, nobody knows or cares that you exist. Nobody calls or emails for business in the beginning - so it's incumbent upon you to create something from nothing. 23:20 Your perspective of the meaning and purpose of your work really matters. Must be more than just wanting to make a fast graphics chip, consumer video games, etc. 30:00 Suffering is essential to building great things and great companies. 30:55 Virtual Fighter (Sega, 1994) was the first use of Nvidia graphics 34:16 The laws of simulation and the laws of physics is a supercomputing problem, a scientific problem. 37:12 Supercomputing centers realized in order for computers to evolve and advance, it needed a tech like Nvidia's. Researchers all over the world started to adopt the tech in one application and one field of science after another, from molecular dynamics, computational physics, astrophysics, particle physics, high energy physics - because it was the best way going forward. 38:00 Einstein was right, gravity is a warp in space and time. LIGO (laser interferometer gravitational wave observatory) proved this. When large objects collide, it creates gravitational shockwaves. 39:00 This field of work contributed to science and knowledge discovery never before imagined - but the tech also powers video games, because the fluid dynamics is same as boats traveling on oceans, particle physics, explosions and buildings crumbling - are the same laws of physics observed in scientific computing. 40:01 Deep learning is an algorithm that writes algorithms that no humans can write. This set off a shockwave of technological advancements known as the Ai revolution. Nvidia was at the epicenter of that moment. 44:30 Everything that moves will eventually be autonomous 47:30 A company's fundamental purpose is to enable its people to do their life's work. Nobody wants to do the life's work that's already been done. Create the conditions by which amazing people can come to their company, a platform by which they can do their life's work, scale, their colleagues, the resources and and expertise of the company so they can tackle the world's challenges. 49:05 Machine learning is an algorithm that processes an enormous amount of historical data and finds interesting patterns and features by itself. 50:12 Ai is software that writes software that no humans can write, because it’s too complex (superhuman intelligence). 55:41 4th Industrial Revolution is the automation of automation - Ai. Software will write software, machines will learn - and will augment, accelerate and empower us. 1:09:40 Time travel

So delighted to have found this video in my feed today. I know much about Dwight Diercks but did know the details of his growing up background’pig farmer’ and all the related significance to his being at MSOE and the highest respect (seen god) he has for late Prof. Matt Treu. What a great recognition this was from MSOE for Dr. Diercks and the great things he is doing for the university and students.

Andy! You delivered such a wonderful and inclusive graduation/Valedictorian speech! I love how you mentioned some of your own shortcomings, and how you worked to overcome them through your own hard work, and through the support of people who loved and cared for you. You are an inspiration to all of us! We love and are so proud of you!!!
