OH, FANTASTIC!!! Early telemark skiing. Earn your turns by climbing first. Leather strap bindings. Ankle high lace up leather boots. Free heel. Skiing wasn't for sissies back then!

frendly uncle Jerry: A good ashtree frame and big rockers make real skis, steel hedges, carbon fiber, fiberglass, propylene sole improve only performance.

For 1930 these are excellent skiers -- linking tele turns! The jaunty fellow with the mustache looks like Dr Leo Eloesser, who might be described as the founder of ski mountaineering in northern California (if anyone can be). Where did this film come from? In his biography, the poet Kenneth Rexroth describes going to Eloesser for information in the 30s on where to ski in the Sierra. Eloesser, a thoracic surgeon, was friend and medical adviser to Frida Kahlo (a volume of their correspondence has been published), served in the Spanish Civil War, and did public health work in China during the 40s. He retired to a village in Mexico at the end of his life, teaching local women midwifery and giving medical care to the locals; he died in 1976 at age 95. His friends seem to have really missed him. ...as we do the man who posted this, Bela Vadasz. RIP!

A professional man with principle and the belief in humanity. Live the guy, without meeting him. Not like the money vulchers of today...he skis better than them, too!

Hi Tim, did you go to high school in West Linn, Oregon? I remember a guy on my ski team (Mt. Hood Meadows) named Tim Dobbins. Just curious if this is you? Oh, and great video :-)
