So, you do 3 separate treatments in one day as opposed to pulling your full 3 in one sitting? And Im curious a out the 200-250 blood flow rate. For my dad, when we start, we go immediatelt to 400, blood pressure, then to 450, and 2bd blood pressure. If his BP is low, he takes midodrine. Curious about the aliwer blood flow rate. Not sure if you mind at all but I'm fairly sure if you requested your clinic could probably get you hooked up with a more modern, touch-screen NxStage machine.

Good grief, if you're cramping after dialysis, perhaps your dry weight is set too low. You don't have to accept that, nor should you accept a center insisting that you pull more than what you know will cause you cramps. If you do start to cramp, Id insist on an immediate infusion of saline to fix that real quick! Pulling 3L is quite a fluid shift but I've seen aggressive centers shoot for 4L. Some of them have lost their minds.

I was excited to add my name to the donor list when I turned 16 and received my driver's license. I was on the list for 25 + years until just last year. My dad was on the transplant list, reached his 5-year wait and due to his need for a double heart valve replacement surgery, he was removed from the wait list. Today, he is not a candidate for transplant for a couple of reasons: 1) the heart surgery was rough - he barely survived that surgery; 2) my dad is anemic. Unfortunately, the dialysis center wasn't monitoring ferritin levels closely enough, and because they always hit anemic patients with high-dose iron, his liver was blown out by an overadministration of iron. As a result, he also has cirrhosis of the liver (obviously NASH, non-alcohol induced, dad was always a bit prudish, he rarely drank); 3) if he were to receive a transplant, he would require a kidney and liver both from the same donor. The liklihood that he would survive that surgery is very slim. Early on, we discussed me potentially donating but as his son, we know that I am st a greatly increased risk of having kidney issues so we let that idea go. As morbid as this may sound, I think that this is all for the best with regard to my dad - not receiving a donor kidney, that is. Or any other organ, for that matter. As for living organ donation, as in a child to parebt, both of whom are of their wits to make such decisions, I fully support. But what the medical complex along with its boards, the OPOs, and everything about the transplant industry has done to create the appearance of a system that is a fully, selfless, act of giving life to another, while concealing the real truths and realities behind donation, I am absolutely morally and ethically opposed to in the strongest manner possible. My dad is just as morally and ethically opposed to the transplant process as what I am. I am also very thankful that he and I can see eye-to-eye on this issue. If the world were aware of what hoops the medical industry has had to clear, all the redefining of various words and terms, the systems that have been created and put to full use to protect itselfyo clear the path to organ harvesting and donation, I have to believe that half of the world would be put into psychiatric hospitals. Many people would go on without a second thought but many more simply would not be able to handle it. For those who have received donor organs, I wish the best. But for me and our situation, I am forever grateful that I came into this knowledge before any type of procedure had taken place. I cant help but think that our now forever tarnished and reputation-ruined healthcare system is going to have a LOT of explaining to do to all of humanity for its nefarious actions and practices. It is just absolutely unthinkable. Now combine all of this with 'covid19' - my personal disgust toward the healthcare system overflows!

I guess using a buttonhole as opposed to a wingeater makes self-cannulation a bit more tolerable. My dad is home hemo, I am his care partner. We've attempted to move to a buttonhole format but I have a somewhat weak stomach. There's just something about scraping off scabs that doesn't sit right with me. I just absolutely cringe. Wingeaters I am totally cool with and I can see how your system makes home hemo far more tolerable rather than having to create a new stick every time you dialyze.

I've been doing this as my dad's care partner for nearly 3 years now. It just astounds me how sensitive & temperamental this nxstage machine and pureflow can be. It's usually a few months of trouble-free treatments peppered with seemingly catastrophic, world-ending, apocalyptic difficulties with such simple procedures as priming a new PAK. This time, it's alarm 51, high output pressure, when there are no kinked lines, lines are appropriately connected. This system can easily be both friend and foe.

Very true, once we have a good/ properly functioning cycler and control panel/PUREFLOW - it runs smoothly.
@TheAgentAaron
@TheAgentAaron 4 ай бұрын
@celoaffect ...all the way to the point that for some mysterious reason, it doesn't. I will detail the solution to my problem below because this solution is absolutely nowhere to be found in research and trying to locate. The problem that I had: Priming a new PAK, I had a red alarm 51 go off- 'high output pressure'. The potential issues listed contributing to this alarm are primarily kinked or occluded lines or possibly a line clamp not open. This procedure uses both the fresh water in line and the condo line (this is the orange clamp line and is the only time that it connects to the freshwater line [blue clamp line]). All of my clamps were open and neither of the lines were kinked or occluded. I attempted to push fresh water through the effluent line (yellow clamp - waste line) and had no problem doing so. I couldn't see how this would have been an issue as I flush the drain line with bleach water 2x per week. I resumed prime- again, alarm 51. Here is what I believe was the resolution (I think, maybe not). I closed both orange clamps, disconnected the condo from the pureflow control panel with a bucket underneath.***** I gave a gentle tug on the blue line coming out from the PAK just in case it was kinked somehow inside the PAK where I couldn't see*****. With the condo line still disconnected from the control unit, I ensured the line was over my bucket and resumed prime once more. Voilá! Water began to flow quite generously from the condo line. I reattached the condo line to the control unit, re-opened the orange clamps, and resumed prime - again! I'm certain this was the resolution. Unfortunately, by this point, Pureflow was ready to call it quits. I was instructed by the pureflow control unit to remove the PAK and replace it with a new PAK to prime. So, the first PAK was corrupted. The second PAK was primed without a single issue. I followed up with nxstage afterward. Provided PAK # for their follow up. I was not asked to send this PAK back for their investigation but I have been asked once before about 2 years ago. Just be sure to call nxstage if you ever have a PAK fail as I did. If you do, whoever you speak with will reorder and send out a new PAK for you around normal supply delivery schedule. If you don't, you will be asked to place the order through your dialysis nurse who would then need to approve and place the order for you. A real PITA, I know. In any event, tugging on the freshwater line with blue clamps coming out from the PAK was the resolution, I believe. My name is Aaron, my dad is the dialysis patient, I am his care partner. We are going on 3 years of home heno.

During my time in the clinic and PD, my lab results were not always satisfactory when it came to treatment. However, since transitioning to HHD, my lab results have shown significant improvement, despite not adhering to a strict renal diet. It is important to find a balance between enjoying life and maintaining good health, and Velphoro has been a valuable tool in achieving this balance.
