Well it's majorly a Japanese to English dub thing.. Same goes for Kami and King Kai. Kami is supposed to be God. We don't know what his name is. We just call him Kami because the English dub does. same goes for King Kai. His name isn't actually King. Even with Supreme Kai, in Japanese it's called Kaioshin which they renamed as Shin but we never knew his actual name. Like sure in the tournament he says it's Shin but still. Even Tien. His full name is Teinshenhan. But in the dub they split it up as Tein Shinhan.

Gohan's tracksuit is a nice homage to Toriyama. He often wears it in real life so it was cool to make it an offical attire for one of his characters.
