Saw an ad on a job website about the qualifications of tugboat workers. Had no idea it took so long to get qualified for international work let alone to work on a ship.

Sounds like by getting a job with a cruise line they will walk you through all this and then reimburse you for all expenses after you get to your 1st assignment. Im in the getting my physical stage now on tue. then they will send me to Virginia for a week training to get certified in all other mariner areas. everything takes time through NCL I will be going to Pride of America based in HI 5mths on 5weeks off. 1 day at a time.

Got my TWIC in one week, my passport in 3 weeks and did not do the safety course. Applied directly for my MMC. Total time for everything. 3 months!

Just a clarification for people reading. You do not need to pay for the VPDSD and BST classes to simply get a credential. You will only need the classes for large ships on international voyages. If you want a credential to work on a tug or other domestic ship they are not required.
