Thank you for your video. Such a problem when not recognised until adulthood and all the harm that could be done has mostly been done. I have found that because of my RSD with what i now know to ADHD, i find it extremely difficult to imagine that others dont feel totally hopeless and worthless when someone tries to give them constructive criticism. This results in a major block in disciplining my children, almost like i just cannot be harsh because i cant cant get over my fear of how it might make them feel, due to the inexplicable horror and depression i feel when the harshness is directed at me. I literally have a daily/hourly struggle to keep trying. 😩

Don’t get me started on police dept’s being behind. I had a small episode, my dad called for help? I ended up in jail for 48 hrs [24 hrs later] dragged out of the house on a broken foot, zero miranda rights or WHY cuz, apparently I watch too much tv. Absolute NIGHTMARE DID NOT HELP MY TRAUMA! 💯 disappointed. It was like nothing has changed in 200 yrs. 🙏blessings to all. Life has bo manual & esp when it comes to any of this~ 😢❤

I was recently diagnosed with CPTSD and ADHD at 40 years old. Listening to Jess's story and listening her say so many things I've never been able to say out loud because I was scared or just couldn't find the proper words to explain, was so comforting. I feel so much less alone, which is huge. Thank you

At 46? Adhd. Almost 49? Cptsd. Also Fibro, panic, anxiety- etc etc. it’s a blessing to know so we can move fwd, but also a curse cuz ppl do not understand. Blessed at work, cursed at home. Trying to care for the elderlies? They never understood. Sis moved out at 12 then at 15- I moved out at 16 then after 2 mo, 17. Now all under the same roof? I hide- she controls. We have issues on top of issues.

I agree that some people blame their disability for bad behavior which they feel gives them a free pass for inappropriate behavior or pain caused to loved ones. However, there are many people who weren't diagnosed ADHD until adulthood. So they're carrying childhood trauma in the form of verbal abuse. They were constantly told they were lazy, irresponsible, disrespectful, have no respect for anything, messy surroundings, if only you applied yourself, you appreciate nothing I do for you, you loose everything, etc. To sum it up, we're thoughtless, selfish, disrespectful, entitled, lazy, slovenly, rude and basically lacking morals or compassion for anyone but ourselves. We still hear all of those criticisms in our head daily. So these people have a sort of PTSD reaction to constructive criticism or a friend stating that they felt hurt by "insert behavior" and instead of the ADHD person hearing what's being said they hear the unfair, cruel criticisms of their childhood and react to a perceived attack for a disability and moral failing. I know this because I wasn't diagnosed until 35. All I was told about ADHD symptoms was problems with focus and starting/ finishing tasks. Which pfft, didn't seem much like anything that could have any real negative impact on my life. After countless hours of in-depth research on websites, science journals etc. There's so much most PhD's are ignorant of ADHD. The executive function disfunction, inability to regulate emotion, random intense rage over sometimes inane things that last a few minutes then poof gone in a second, forgetfulness, time blindness, rejection sensitivity, anxiety, insomnia...infinity. I'm aware that it is a spectrum, some find it manageable and others have trouble with daily functioning, ie getting out of bed for instance. I am in the US and psychiatrists/therapists are few and far between. I've seen countless different Psychiatrists and a few therapists and found that more than a few are less informed than myself, which is sad and beyond disturbing! So, until we adopt Medicare for all our mental health crises will continue to get worse. Not to mention the NRA increasing access to guns, allowing open carry in some places w/o a license, allowing 18yr olds to purchase an AR-15 but not a can of beer. 😡
