Hi Brenda. I want your students to know that it is very rewarding to work with balance and vestibular patients and we have a big need for more OTs in this field. P.S. I miss seeing you in vestibular OT group.

Some patients may wear sunglasses indoors due to sensitivity to light specifically fluorescent lighting. Just beware with prolonged wearing of sunglasses indoors causes the person to become more sensitive to light. Just think of yourself in a dark room or movie theater and walking outside into bright sunlight. With older individuals it takes the eyes much longer to adapt to the changes in lighting.

How are models different from frames of reference? What even is a frame of reference ?
@brendahowardotr8 ай бұрын
Hello, I have another video about that - kzbin.info/www/bejne/jHu2gHZ6oN6DnbM Talking about theories as "models" and "frames of reference" is a taxonomy used by Cole & Tufano, a textbook we use in our OT program here at UIndy; it is a widely-used textbook in the US.

Hi brenda, i want to ask about dynamic visual processing assessment that were in the domain of dynamic interaction assessment. I didn't get any sources about what is that or what the form looks like. Maybe you know something about DVPA. Kindly asking because i have no idea about this
@brendahowardotr Жыл бұрын
Hello, did you mean dynamic visual acuity? Here is a video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nGfId6KEh7KIoJY Notice they are using a logmar chart, not a Snellen chart. As far as visual processing, I would assume that, since most Toglia assessment is based on observation, you would be observing how they process visual input in their environment. It could be having them look in the fridge and "find the milk." Doing things like that. Does that help?

If a patient has confirmed vestibular dysfunction that is central, they have confirmed POTS, inflammatory arthritis, connective tissue disorder, mild clonus and self reported many neurological symptoms, but the clinical neuro exam was otherwise normal and the brain/spine mri is normal, and neuro is quitting and referring to psych, what else could they be missing? What tests could be done? Could the confirmed diagnosis be the culprit or is the neurologist missing something?
@brendahowardotr8 ай бұрын
Whew, that is a tough one. This person has enough going on that could cause vertigo. Wondering if they also have migraines? Just something to check into. I'm not a medical doctor and cannot diagnose, but the only other thing I might recommend is referral to an audiologist for a vestibular assessment with VNG testing. I will say it's common that people get referred to psych when neuro is out of options. And dealing with all the feelings and thoughts someone has about their vestibular dysfunction is not a bad thing. Gentle habituation may be the best bet - yoga, tai chi.

I think I was crazy to become COTA at 50 years old. OT has too many different words that mean the same. Too many Frames of References. Yet now those F.O. R. are confusing. God help me.
