I actually don't really like this arc because I always see black lagoon as semi realistic depiction of underworld. Seeing two child soldier with frilly clothes is too anime-ish for black lagoon. I must admit tho the kids backstory and this arc ending is heart wrenching.

best anime oat, nothing felt pulled away, as weird as it is to say its refreshing to watch a show that has these elements, a child being offed, the death, ignorance, the premise of it all, you almost feel as if the show isnt treating you as a child by being meticulous and I love that. Nothing feels forced to come off as this over the top really dark/edgy anime simply for the sake of it, its mapped out in a realistic kinda way where you lose you lose, and unlike most new gen anime the adults actually look and behave like adults and not the typical klutz or always calm and collected trope, the charaters have depth even if its not always showing it for such a short anime. Genuinely one of the few animes I can go back and rewatch and not get tired of, cause the dialogue parts are just as enjoyable as the action, and very very few animes can pull that off.

Sometimes their isnt a win. You just pick how you loose.

The reason for Balalaika's discharge was due to PTSD because of her efforts to save a child in a warzone. Now she ordered the death of two children. She began her mafia so they can play the role of soldiers again. They became the very enemy they used to fight in war.

Miss Balalaika was, to me, the single most interesting character in this show. She had such a deep history, such a well-fleshed out character arc. She was a ruthless killer and a mafia boss, but you couldn't help but respect her and her squad. Her charisma was phenomenal. Just goes to show you how deep the bonds that are formed from shared trauma. Miss Balalaika was not the traditional anti-hero antagonist. She remains one of the better characters crafted in anime, and her like has yet to be seen again. I doubt it ever will be.

Far as I see it Balalaika is Chaotic good. She lives by a military code of honor, and she does everything she does for the good of her comrades. Also, despite being terrifying, she gives everybody who hasn't crossed her a chance to not meet their fate at her hands. Nobody said the side of good has to be nice.

Those guys with snipers are the true MVPs here. Also, Balalaika & Roberta are easily one of my fave female characters of all time. Fun fact: Balalaika is a G-cup, Roberta is an H-cup 😏
