I am finally watching this delightful series of videos. This one made me wish I had kept Bayard Hale Jones' The American Lectionary, and reminds me of the time when Bishop Jones widow struck my dog with her large black Cadillac. She was a kindly person, but a famously solepsiistic driver.

This looks like a very interesting book. It literally seems like the editor took the best parts of the 1928 BCP and Anglican Breviary and smashed them together then took a bible and bound it all together - very nice

I'm using Divine Worship Daily Office Commonwealth Edition and in my general instructions I found that the Roman Martyrology is traditionally read at Prime. To what year is your Roman Martyrology dated to? I found some only until 1961 if I remember correctly. Thank you Christ is risen! Alleluia

Why does the Christian day begin at evening? Where does this come from?

A vigil begins at night. In some feast days you’ll find there’s evensong 1, which is the vigil for the feast day, and evensong 2, which occurs on that feast day itself.

What are those placeholders you have clipped on several pages (e.g. the hymn doxologies)? I'd like to get some myself, but I'm not sure where to find them. Thank you for these tutorials!

Very well done. Thanks especially for the tip at the end about marking a lesson in the Apocrypha; this allowed me to fling the strip of paper I had been using for that. The book's ribbon's suffice!

This is beautifully set out and more tailored for at home use ive had to kind of devise my own way of preying daily office from the Cambridge bcp. As I'm British and using our preyer book to prey at home .i think you can just choose 1 psalm from the daily preyer.but i just read them all once a month but don't read the parts read by clergy i use my time to read more bible and make notes .thanks this channel helps

13:48. So you have abolished or ignored totally the oldest Western Christian Psalter recitation system to accommodate modern man's laziness and lack on concern for spiritual things. That's hardly a rousing endorsement of the AOB!!!!!!!

We are glad to hear that you pray the entire psalter every day, and do not concede to laziness by praying it over a week, as the illustrious St Benedict regretted had become the general practice.

@@josephr.gainey2079i know the benidictine hours are to say the psalms weekly is it ? But im from uk and our bcp has always been psalms monthly as is all lay person needs really. As we are not monks. The AOB seems the same as the BCP we have at C of E except more tailored for America and places the church of england isn't head of ?

Is it necessary to announced the chapter number for a reading that commences a book? For example would one say “here begineth the first chapter of the song of Solomon” or does saying “here begineth the song of solemon” suffice?
@AnglicanOffice

The latter sufficeth.

This is very helpful! Is there a reason that the confession is skipped?
@AnglicanOffice
@AnglicanOffice Жыл бұрын
The rubrics never require the Confession at Evensong, so it is acceptable to skip it from time to time.

While its use in the breivary is very common, the correct name for the metre of the hymn “jam lucis” at prime is not in “common metre” it is in fact in “long metre.” Ling metre is notated as 88-88 common metre is 86-86 which appears frequently in hymnals and popular songs and poems but never in the breviary

Thank you so much for taking the time on this book. There is so many nuances that I never realised about rankings of days and clashes of rankings and evensong feast days which begins on the previous eve not the following morning. This has been a masterclass. Brilliant 👏
