Thank-you for these great tips, Thrifty! A lot of this is new to me. And I never thought to try a color pencil right on top of oil pastel! 🤯 That black pencil looks really great! I swatched my school-grade oil pastels and my first impression is that the white in my set does not layer very well and looks pretty transparent. So, after seeing your black pencil layer like a boss, maybe I can use the white color pencil to boost my white areas and highlights, too? Do you happen to know if white pencil can go in-between layers of oil pastel, if I have a weak/transparent color? For instance… dark color on the bottom, followed by white pencil, followed by transparent color on top? I love your blues-blend in the sky and the reflections in the water. I am excited/nervous to try to make a picture, but you make it look easy! I am glad you gave us an example to copy, because sometimes that is the hardest part: Getting an idea and getting started! 🍁🦔

I've only really tried oil pastels a couple of times (at a walk-up activity table at an art festival, haha), but I thought they were really fun! I could not believe how quick they were to use. (Especially with soft pastels.) With other media, it is easy to get bogged down with drawing carefully first and dealing with water and whatnot, but with chunky pastels… it can be ready, set, gooooo! 🏁🤗

You recommended the MM extra soft last year and I bought a pastel or muted set and loved it! I just bought a bunch of Sennelier during the Blick sale (ok a bunch is like 12 $25 worth-- not that many). But I also want to try the PR Haiya

Those Mont Marte "premium" oil pastels are fabulous. Their "signature" oils pastels - not so much. My favorite oil pastels are Mungyo Gallery, Soho Urban Artists, and the Mont Marte "premium". Great video. The Soho Urban Artists are super soft and pigmented. They remind me of Sennelier, but way less expensive.

Oh cool! I have experimented with stretching watercolor paper this way, but it can really waste paper depending on how you wrap the paper around the frame. That is so amazing that Jerry's has them premade. Too bad about the ghostly fingerprints, tho (…must be Halloween)! 👻 I hope it did not happen at the factory, or else Jerry will be very unhappy! I really enjoyed InkTober, I have done all 30 days (last day is tomorrow). I think it has helped me to be more creative, even with the most difficult of prompts. I did landscapes, animals, florals, objects, ext... I'm looking forward to pastel month. I have two brands, Pentel, which I don't like. They have a smell to them and are streaky. This may be user error. I have Faber Castel oil pastels, just a small set of 12, which I like a bit better. I'm looking forward to learning more of how to use oil pastels because I love the look they give but at the moment they make me extremely frustrated.

I wonder if this will be good with neocolor II or other watercolor pencils 🤔

I think I want to try this. I am going to wait on your review first though.

I am slowly recognizing the difference. The video with the bottled inks and fountain pens helped.

I love inks! They are fun to sketch with. These are Gorgeous flowers! The quill is a really fun element, too. Makes me smile to see someone using a good-old-fashioned feather!

The smaller portable painter ...the paint palette comes out of the bottom and the bottom is a water cup and then it is easy to attach the water cup and the mixing palette to the sides.
