This is an interesting title here. Right away I think of Job. I think of how he cursed the day of his birth in chapter 3, and I also think of his 3 friends who didn't really remind him of who it was that made that day. Who made the day of Job's birth? It was the Lord. Who are we to curse a day that God has made anyway? I know life can be difficult at times, and even the prophet Jeremiah cursed the day of his birth, but I don't think Jeremiah stayed in bitterness very long. Every one of us will at some time in life have to encounter bitterness, but I want to learn how to get out of it. It was a good day when Job was born. It was a day when a man was born into this world that would grow up in the fear of the Lord and have a ministry that is very important to God. (see chapter 29) No moth could do that kind of work. No worm could ever attain unto it. Job's ministry to his community was a ministry unto God and Job did it very well. God was with him in it and God showed him what the apostle Paul spoke of in Romans 1:19,20. It was a marvelous thing that Job did for his community and for the Lord, with the help of the Lord, with the Lord working through him. (see chapter 29) May the day that a child is born into this world, never be cursed, for we really don't know if that child will grow up in the fear of the Lord and have a ministry that is important to God like Job had. May the day never be cursed that produces a child that will have a ministry like that. It just wouldn't be right to curse a day like that, would it? Yet, I understand what grief can do to a man. I understand a bit about troubles in life that we might encounter, but even so, I'm just saying, we could repent of cursing a day that God has made, could we not? And if we did, maybe our present day could be just a little bit brighter, and we might see the right way a bit more clearly. God always rewards repentance when repentance is appropriate, doesn't he? I believe that he does. I'm not saying that suddenly everything will change in an instant. I'm not saying that at all. I'm not saying that all of a sudden, all that back pain will be gone in an instant if we repent of something, or that suddenly you will get a phone call for that job you wanted. All I am saying is that when we repent when God wants repentance, there will be some kind of benefit of God coming to us, for fearing God is never for nothing. My how many pitfalls in life there are for all of us, but God has given us his word to instruct us in the right way, and sometimes it takes a parable of Jesus to open things up for us. For me, it was the parable of the prodigal son that opened up the book of Job. Did you ever sit down and write out a short play about a father and a wayward son, who asked for his inheritance from his father so he could just leave for who knows what? What would a good loving wise father do? Well in that parable of Jesus, that father let his son go with all of his inheritance, just like he asked. If there was a neighbor who heard about what his son did, and he talked with the father, what kind of things might he say? And what do you suppose a good, loving, and wise father would say about his son then? Would he defend him, without saying anything about his decision to leave? Would he only have good things to say about him? It's worth thinking about, isn't it? It was for me.
