As a complete Novice, can you explain how a battle actually works please? Maybe using skirmishes how does the ground cover elevation, line of site unit power work etc etc

Thank you for coming to the tournament, I enjoyed the game we had. Your right I like my mobile jeeps with HMG, in the last mission they sat at the back on Ambush to hurt who ever walked on my back edge then moved up once all the reserves were on the table. Hope to see you at the next one

@@GDWargames The scout cars on my wish list but I've a half track for a couple more points and I can hide behind/in area terrain and move through it when I want, but its coin toss for speed or through terrain for me at the moment. I'll need to play around with them

Hi Leon, yeah not many seem to play anything other than mainstream games like 40k, bolt action, etc. Its a shame really there are a lot of gems out there waiting to be found and played.

@ true I’m still working on how to play a game where a division size force comes into a cavalry screen then both sides plan a preferred battle site by using blinds, much like first bull run. I have an old set of SYW rules that uses a 6 x 4 table and roll dice for terrain in 6” squares there is a road base to base to define each armies LoS perhaps 2 roads for confusion. You then move blinds to make contact when the contact is made you try to gain your preferred battle ground, around the 6” squares but on the battle table those 6” squares are now 12” squares on the 6 x 4 table. So keeping your army concentrated becomes a. Real problem especially as it is for a 3 hour competition game. I’ve never played against a live opponent. I’ve tried it with hexmap on paper but hexes and squares don’t mix easily. When you read the campaign in the lowlands no one really knew what to expect. They knew where the enemy was a day ago but where was it now?

Yeah, on the face of it, it may seem unfare, but there release of the army book is 1 every 3 months or so, i think Japan is the last one in 2026. but i can't see the guys running events not letting player who have brought the books not used them.

U could go 1 x M7 Priest, 1 x Sherman 76 and Sherman 105 = 620 + 4 x 12 man squads (480 points) with 2 x officers + 3 extra men and 1 x bazooka team.

Hi mate, i don't have a M7 in my collection and at the moment i just want to use what i have the 6 x 10man squads worked really well, especially as two of the last events games were objective based that only infantry or artillery could capture, so infantry is important, i'm working on a new list which has a 76mm Sherman in it, as currently it looks like USA is going to win the vote, :)

Definitely U should have used only one heavy weapon company. The points from the officer (30 points) would bring a spotter, that missing BAR and an extra man to help an officer. I'd have gone with 2 extra men for your rifle platoon officers. U didn't need every squad to have AT. Anyway it looks a fun army list - hope the tournament went okay. How was the MMG?

Hi, it was my first v3 event and i though the extra officer would be useful thats the reason for the extra heavy platoon, to be honest the MMG's were ok, only put out a few pin's better than in V2 but still a bit under par, going to try the HMG. i think they will be much improved with the 6 shots and +1 pen. :)

Hi its in two parts the silo part is 8in wide and 15in long and 10in high, the silos are 30mm foam pipe insulation cut in half, so if you get some and use that as your size template it helps with the measurements. the end building is approx 10in wide and 3in deep by 16in tall, again the size was just taken from the silo size and pictures i used for ref; hope this helpslets know how you get on, im working on the stalingrad train station at the moment will post a video once i start building it, :)

@@GDWargames Thank you! About The insulation foam pipes, what is inner hole diameter and outside diameter of pipe? I was checking local stores for those pipes and there was some different kind of diameters for those. Like 15/13mm. So i think that means 15mm inner hole and 13mm of insulation. That makes it total diameter of 41mm. Would that do for a silo?

@snuff206 yeah it's 15mm inside, by me there's is two size one 30mm outside the other is 40mm outside, I used the 30mm one, you can use the 40mm just workout how many silos you want and take your building sizes from that, :)

I also think HMGs are fun and useful. Heard some people day that they replace autocannons now, but not so sure about that. The added ft of range (now 48") and +1 pen are a great way to deal with enemy units!

Hey i like this video, really gives insight into the competitive listbuilding! If i might ask, why are you taking AT grenades? Thats about 100 pts, when you can buy another bazooka + jeep for that i think. And why did you buy a second heavy weapons platoon? Cant all the mmgs, mortars and bazookas be fitted into a single hvy weapobs platoon? Or did you want a 4th platoon cmdr?

Hi i took AT grenades with every platoon cost me 120pts, because it was the first V3 event i was going to i wasn't sure how many vehicles my opponents would have, so i thought if i lost the Bazooka's then my infantry squads could still take out vehicles, you are right another bazooka and jeep will replace the AT grenades in future, :) yeah i took the 2 heavy platoon for the extra officer, but did'nt make a difference to be honest, so one heavy would be enough.

@dariostabletopminatures bazookas. Did ok, popped one of Mordian Glorys matildas game one, didn't do much game 2. But popped a halftrack and forced my opponent to deploy his hellcats on the far right of the table away from the bazookas, to be honest I whish I had taken 3 or 4 bazooka teams, :)

@@dariostabletopminatures give then a go, to be honest i did use them in V2, i used to sit them in the back of a 21/2 ton truck and jump them out to pop tanks, but in v2 you only rearly had one tank to deal with, there is a few more in V3, lol

Good game, looks like so many that I've played over the years. I'd say a bit more scenery mid table would be good, it was a bit 'we move 12" in and shoot, you move 12" in and shoot and that's it, everyone stops. I really like kill point games too, I think there a lot to be said for withdrawing after the first turn, players almost invariably keep.pshhjng forward and shooting, I think you had a nice kill-box there in front of those sandbags and if he could be 'persuaded' to rush out after you a nice double back and catch him in the open would be a game winner. I've barely.played against multi launchers though, scary I think when they hit. Looking forward to seeing your v 3 games, I'm waving goodbye to 2nd ed this Sunday with a last campaign game at our club, he has a 20% advantage and using Brits and so has about 1,300pts vs my 1k, wish me luck....😢😂

@@GDWargames yeah, we played before but the battle ended in a draw so this is a rematch, although he knows my army now and likely will play accordingly. Saying that he has big 10 man units of Ghurkas which is fine by me as I aim to pin them out with my 10 units for the same cost as his 3 squads there. Well, that's the plan anyways, it'll be tough. Keep the vids going, genuine content like this is always welcome, all the best 🤘😎

From the order dice side warlord want to sell more packs so imagine they are staying 13 dice, how ever some of the new sets include order dice such as special weapon teams and I've seen some tanks wih a dice. Ive also heard the US can take a quad HMG platform with 24 shots as its not vehicle mounted but itd would be all at one target which i expect to suffer if shot at even vets

yeah sales of more order dice will make warlord happy, in 1st edition Bolt Action and also in early Antares minis came with order dice, :) Yeah the quad .50cal (meat chopper) should be good against infantry, i have one to try out, :)

Pins have been downgraded too, 1 and 2 inch templates cause D2 pins, 3 and 4 inch template weapons cause D3, and I think Multilaunchers take a pin when they fire too, so they could fire every turn, but would need to pass their tests to do so

even with the reduction in the number of pins if you fire 3 or 4 multi-launchers there is a good chance you will wipe out inexperianced units, especially if they still count each pin as 2, :)

My mate can I had a v. 2.5 game the other week, he had a viable 29 OD list, mine was 24 OD, and that was at 1k. In 2nd ed I always squeezed in 14 to 15 order dice in 500pt to 750pts (my preferred size) quite easily, and that's wih every unit having 6 shots each (apart from the mortar, obvs) It's quite a shrewd business move by Warlord in that we can easily squeeze in nearly double the units in an army now in a standard game. Hoping it does play well, I think they've hit the rules right on the marker with some rules, and either poorly applied others and totally missed the boat entirely on other fronts. We will see. Still a great game and likely to be my main game still (apart from MESBG probably....) Enjoy!

Great winter army! I’m going to start a winter German army also! only list i can give you would be for V2, V3 armies will be a lot different, but the core will be a Rifle platoon, which i would suggest, 3 man HQ, 3 x 10 man infantry squads and a sniper, to start with, :)

Personally I'm dumbfounded as to why pins still make no difference in combat. The whole point of suppressing fire and pouring rounds on to the target unit is to allow a squad or whatever to more freely assault the target. The more fire on target the more likely the attackers will get in with better effect. As such pins still make no difference, and with the nerfing of pins only doing a -1 max to shooting, and that rallying a unit rallies off all pins (and now on max morale value of 11, not 10) any bulds up over more than one turn of shooting is quite possibly a waste of shooting, meaning that straight kills are going to be more important than pinning. Also i think the new rules are that if your assault range is chopped to 6" due to going over terrain to reach the traget unit (or that any part of ypur unit has to get over/past any terrain) the that counts as defender in cover too. I'll have to double check. Obviosuly we will have to see over the next months how it works, but I can't see assaults happening at all/ very much either way. I love BA, and the macro stuff overall looks great (army selections etc) but I'm sceptical of the micro stuff. We will see!!

This represents WW2 a bit beter now you will need to soften those positions prior to assaulting. Therefore more tactical. I don't care for tournament gaming I play BA for fun with the historical part being more important and I feel with these new changes in V3 Allesio and team are trying to make it more historically correct. Tournament tables would be set up not to favour anyone, so what is on one side is on the other and this resulted in bland tables now in V3 tables will need more terrain and hopefully we will see unbalaced tables. As in real life the terrain was never balanced and my have favoured one or the other. This could make the roll off to pick a table edge so much more important in tournament play.

@gregbradfield1686 I completely agree, I'm all for the historical side as well, I have played a few tournaments and wasn't keen, I playing in my first v3 tournament end of September and will see how it goes but I feel in the last couple of years bolt action has moved more towards the competitive side than the historical side, I will see how the end of September's event goes and then give my opinion on we're I think V3 is heading

You could cut them off near the turret end and then drill and pin them back on again, in the correct direction. Or a simple quick saluction would be to cover the barrel end with something to represent a canvas bag, which the Germans did to keep.debri from entering the barrel. Any modelling putty or clay could be used. Or just leave them as they are after all they are your models. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your Stalingrad war games buildings and table. Something I would like to build myself. Enjoy the hobby 👍

Yes, and No, I wouldn't. The table wpu;d have to be epic. If they try to turn this into 40k or Lames of War (sorry, V.4) I'm not really sure whether II'll see it through, or bounce on over to Star Wars Legion. I absolutely love this game so, I would hate to abandon it.

If I understand it correctly sniper gets +1 to hit so hitting on a +3 if sniper as leader is killed and his second passes his moral and assumes sniper role he suffers a -1 penalty to hit which in turn cancels the +1 to hit so he will be hitting on a +4. In the same way if the gun shield rule and extra protection rule still exist the +1 to damage will nulify them.

I think another great set of rules changes.....never liked the use of soft skin battle taxis....now if you want to transport a unit into harms away..need to use the appropriate armoured transport.....and the superficial damage chart adds some nice character to the dam caused to vehicles without making it too complicated...and now at least turret jam can be a possibility without the silly 50/50 everytime....which everyone ignored for that reason....and making stugs etc cheaper compared to panzer 4 etc....now you have more reason than simply choosing the stug life to take one😂....really think bolt action is getting a gentle nudge towards more realism but will keep fun.

@rich_john I have been guilty of using battle taxi myself hq flamethrower and two bazooka teams in a 2 1/2 ton truck, :) but will be using my M3 more and may pick up some white scout cars. 😀

So the thing that gets me about this is these figures are standard US infantry. They were pretty much in full retreat in the initial phase of the Bulge. They did turn it around but the primary fighting was with the Paratroops. It doesn't hurt to have US infantry in winter gear of course.

i have some US paratroops unassembled, but they have put the new plastic winter figures in the box, its a bit mad they have a good range of winter US figures, but nothing for the winter FJ's, unless there going to release some support group box's and other winter units for them, there is not much you can do to expand the FJ's from the box, bit of a shame

Absolutely not true. While some troops retreated, others stood and fought hard and inflicted crucial setbacks and casualties on the attacking Germans. The Paratroopers get the glory, but it was the regular GI that beat the Germans from North Africa to the heart of the Reich.

@@GDWargames The new winter Fallschirmjager are wearing very standard winter parkas that came in many camo patters and several solid colors too, with the reverse side bring white, so this new winter kit is excellent for combining with pretty much any other Warlord German kit and swapping the heads around or mixing into the existing Fallschirmjager support weapons teams to make a winter Fallschirmjager force. Lastly, by this stage in the war many Fallschirmjager troops wore regular helmets instead of the special jump helmets. Even as far back as Normandy many Fallschirmjager had regular German helmets, so mixing them around makes perfect sense even in an all Fallschirmjager force.

@@jonathanbirkeland1085 Hi Jonathan, i have a German FJ's force it was my first 28mm Bolt Action army back in 1st edition all metal minis from warlord and Black Tree and Artizan. i also heard the winter uniforms were handed back into the stores in the spring and issued again for the next winter, so there use was limited to specific theatres
