I had the privilege in the U.K. whilst being in the Air Training Corps to march behind a pipe band. A certain swagger of side to side movement of the hips developed. The pipe bands of the Indian Army have an exaggerated swagger which highlights it beautifully!

Honestly, I don't quite get all the hype around the ZS200 in spite of your video clearly showing how blurry many of its videos are compared with the FZ1000. And I have seen low light videos taken with the ZS200 elsewhere - they are a mess. I have been thinking of this 15x zoom camera for indoor and / or low-light concert videos because most concert venues ban professional / interchangeable lens / large cameras which rules out my FZ1000 but the gulf between them, especially at longer focal lengths, seems to be like day and night. There is also significant unit-to-unit quality variation - but the upside to that may be that you could pick up a good copy.

This was a really well done comparison. Would be interesting to see a comparison of the zs80 and zs100/zs200 as well, but this comparison can already be used to learn the major differences between those models. However the ZS80's 720mm equiv. may not have any advantage compared to cropping on the ZS200's 360mm (even for moon shots), as the focal length difference is less.

easy to do. edit the footage you want to keep in the Insta360 studio app (mine was on a Mac). Export it from the app as a 360 view output. I then edited it further in Final Cut (create a new project with 360 as its format size) boosting the shadows a touch and adding the titles. make sure the project in Final Cut is equirectangular in the output settings, not 4K or 1080p. Then output the finished video. Upload to KZbin and it recognizes it as a 360 video and formats it appropriately. Magic! You will lose the back and forth zoom in out but keep the lateral and vertical sweep. It’s fantastic. thanks for the comment.

I've tried for years to turn pipers onto the Maclaren Synthetic reed. I've even gone so far to give pipers his reeds, I've collected quite a few over the years. Most of them I've gotten from pipers that just don't know how to set them up. Most of them are from #15(medium easy) to #20(bordering on hard) and if a piper hears mine they get interested, but are reluctant to pay $50 for 1 reed, but when I tell them that the one I'm playing is 15 years old. When I stressed that in 15 years I've saved thousands from not having to buy cane reeds. Then I tell them that I also put a great stock in my Carbony Celtic Winds carbon fiber Bb chanter, they look kinda shocked, especially when they hear it. I contacted Rob Gandara, owner of Carbony and asked if he could make me a carbon Fibre chanter in Bb, told me he'd try. The reed plus chanter plays a constant Bb on my Korge tuner, forever, it gives me a better tone than my expensive ABW Henderson chanter. The chanter at the time cost me $500 because it took Rob new development to make it, now they run $360, about the price of a quality blackwood chanter. The carbon Fibre chanter is unaffected by temperature, humidity and Rob gives a lifetime warranty on it and it doesn't leave his shop unless it plays perfectly. Like I said, I stake my reputation on both. I really liked your video. Now you need to make one comparing plastic and carbon Fibre drone reeds, that would be interesting. I use the carbon Fibre Ross Omega drone reeds. They are extremely complex and hard to set up, unless you've been playing pipes for 30 years plus, I'm 55 years into Piping. If you decide to do drone reeds, I could set up some Omegas and send them to you, but I'd need them back, eventually, but the only problem with the Omegas is they quit making them because only expert pipers were patient enough to fool with them. We'll talk again soon, again, really liked the video, but don't worry about the squeaks and squawking of the reeds, it would have taken to much time to really set them up. I'm of Scottish/German ancestry, first one born in the U.S., so I like to tinker and expect perfection in mostly everything I set my mind to. Good luck in Piping.

I'm a professional piper in Las Vegas and I've played the same Maclaren Synthetic chanter reed in a Carbony Celtic Winds carbon fiber Bb chanter for 15 years, never given me any trouble. Plays exactly like a cane reed. It plays a consistent Bb all day. I also play Ross Omega carbon Fibre(original) drone reeds. I tuned and balanced my reeds perfectly and the Carbony chanter has never required any tape in it. I play 120 year old Hendersons in Ebony. I've played for 3 presidents, 15,000 people in an arena at Caesars Palace that was satellite transmitted to 163 countries. I trust the Maclaren, Omega and Carbony with my carrier. Incidentally, the Omega drone reeds are very complicated and hard to setup, but once they are, they stay that way permanently. I haven't returned chanter or drone reeds for 15 years. Saved a hellofalot of cash on reeds. I figured about $2,000 to $3,000 grand. Just can't beat that. BTW, I. Tuned my drones about 4 months ago and they're still in tune. Of course the 5 percent humidity help here.

thanks for the thoughtful reply. Your deep experience with synthetic reeds, Maclaren specifically, goes well beyond my review! the piping world is steeped (or another description, held back) in tradition that can substitute improvement with nostalgia. I was at a smallpipes workshop where i had replaced my cane chanter reed and Mccallum blackwood chanter with a Walsh polypenco chanter and plastic reed. Brighter sound, easier holes to feel with the fingers, and forgiving to pressure changes. As the workshop instructor (a VERY well known piper who shall remain nameless) walked around tweaking everyone’s reeds his eyes bugged out and he looked like he had picked up a hot cat turd and claimed there was nothing he could do to help! No curiousity or question about sound, just that “if it’s nae cane it’s craaaaaap!”. I still dont use a synthetic in my band chanter as it’s too hard to sync with all the others who have cane, but it would be interesting if we all went synthetic. The band would likely play and sound better, especially in winter parades. cheers!

@NorthOlbo9 ай бұрын
@@kmcg101 looping is the default setting. You can pick random videos, or your favourites. The videos are roughly grouped into themes like underwater, UNESCO sites, etc. There are a lot more being offered now, including unpaid amateurs who submit their own and are accepted. Most of the ones I watch now are my own videos and photo collages that I’ve edited in Final Cut pro to fit a 1080 x 1920 format, and I can select which one I want to watch. Sometimes trips i’ve done, sometimes scenery. sometimes sports or hobbies. You aren’t limited to scenery if you do your own, no one else can see them.

@@NorthOlbo Thanks for the explanation. For a year I've been trying to make a fake view effect on my kitchen wall. I want to do at least 3 portrait displays on the wall exactly like Atmoph does it. But if I'm just looping a 10 minute video, it would take away from the illusion. Currently I have a single 55" 4k Frame TV on my wall and I play 10 hour youtube videos of beaches, waves, or lakes. It's beautiful but splitting it into 3 smaller portrait displays is a more impressive effect. I thought Atmoph would be a more polished experience instead of a Matrox quad box and 3 displays. But the looping videos would break the illusion for me.

Well, that was a useful comparison. Who would have thought it would still be useful today... The FZ1000 has been followed up by the mkII already 5 years ago but still has the same sensor and lens. Did decide to get that one for an upcoming safari trip. I was a little bit worried about the 400 mm being a bit too short compared to a 600+mm eq., but seeing how much you can still crop my worries are gone. On a previous trip I used an 8MP Olympus DSLR from 2005 with 70-300mm lens and got some good results. Between the brighter lens, extra resolution and newer sensor, I'm pretty sure it will work out very well A Sony RX10 III or IV might give better results at the long end, but it's also a lot more expensive.
@NorthOlbo9 ай бұрын
Nice to know people still find these ancient videos useful! Unless you are really tight on space, on a trip like a safari I would totally go with the larger sensor camera. You will be at full zoom and still cropping in, or in evening with low light, both need that big sensor. Thanks for the comment

Good luck with it, it’s a brand new instrument really, you just know the chanter fingering already! But you become part of the whole other world of bellows pipes which are a fun journey. Start slow and make sure your bellows are high and the tube connecting the pipes is across your chest and not too short or too long. Thanks!

You could hang the heat lamp directly to the bottom of the feeder (drill some holes in the aluminum reflector, use some s hooks to hang it on feeder) and won't need the flower pot. You also will only need about a 25 watt incandescent bulb, not a 40 or 60 watt, just warm enough to keep nectar from freezing is all you need. It works perfect and is simple and light weight.
