This is cool! I'm very SP inspired after seeing all that awesome motive power.

Is it walk in or pay 5 admission + A train show or just lot trains running ? Q-A
@gsmrm6 ай бұрын
Hi! The Museum has a $5/adult admission fee on Sundays. We have 3 permanent layouts running every weekend, but we don't have vendors or much in the way of train sales, except for our Swap Meet days, held twice per year.

I model Northeastern roads in N Scale but I do have several of these great Western varnish name trains. The NYC 20TH Century, PRR Broadway LTD, CNJ Blue Comet and others were great trains but the ATSF.UP, SP, NP, CBQ, DRGW, had some amazing equipment that I had to model. Lucky for me that Kato does make several of them and I have been able to get them and run frequently at home and at our RR club

Small correction at 2:07 - in 1971 the train was renamed to the "San Francisco Zephyr". The "California Zephyr" name came later!

There is definitely something wrong with that crossover. I'm glad I'm not the only person to find RP25 profile wheels a little track sensitive.

I remember those Inside Gateway trains from my days in Sacramento (1973-84), especially the ALCOs of the former SP&S. Unfortunately all the BN power had been repainted to Cascade green by the time I got there.

There is videos of model trains that look like model's but wen you run into a video were the video looks real or some parts you can't tell if it is a modle or if it is a real train like this video it blows my mind. Fantastic work.

Try this. Prepare your trains by removing the screws that secures the trucks to the cars and lead engine(s) Prepare 2 feet of straight track simulating jointed rail (minus rail joiners)over individual ties with loose ballast that matches the groomed and scenic appearance of the right of way. ( Patience and a steady hand or two will have a great payoff when you achieve a satisfactory look and you record this) As the track breaks under the weight of your model, spreading rails, with ballast, and ties getting mounded up with locomotives and cars shedding wheel sets will help add an extra degree of realism. You could prepare an entire single track industry siding on the club layout for an unexpected mind blowing accident on some unsuspecting club member shoving a cut of cars at the grain silos during an operating session.

can somebody tell me what "reefer" means?? they look so much like boxcars but... different
@whiteknightcat6 жыл бұрын
Reefers in the transportation industry refer to refrigerated rail cars or highway trailers typically used for transporting perishable freight such as produce or meat. Early railroad reefers such as the ones modeled here used bunkers full of ice at the ends of the cars for cooling, hence the term "ice bunker reefers". As the steam era came to a close, larger mechanical reefers using diesel powered refrigeration units replaced the old ice bunker cars. Insulated boxcars were also developed which could be pre-cooled before loading and then sealed for the trip. Today, cryo-cars have also been developed that transport frozen products at sub-freezing temperatures.
