Nice welding. So far your idea is working well. This might be a stupid question, I'm going to try my best to explain my thoughts. Would it work if you had a type of grid over the silage, let's say 10mm round bar that's curved over the cow feed, spaced about 200mm apart, wide enough for a cows mouth to fit through. The grid could be on a hinge that would be lifted, place the feed under it, lower the grid and the cows eat through it? I hope that makes sense, it's easier to draw than to type. P.S. My stepfather used to tease me about my welding. As the phrase goes "if you grind more than you weld, that makes you a grinder, not a welder." I'm a grinder. Haha

you have a nice cattle shed, the idea of a bucket holder will be a success but as regards cattle minerals bolusing is a long way ahead of other methods

The one great advantage to precision chop pit silage was no waste pulled in through barrier or neck rail, way more pulled in with bale silage irrespective of shed barrier type

Hi, i had mush the same problem with dry feed getting pulled in tanks and a real pain mixing. I tried this and it worked very well and i think improved slurry quality Plocher treatment sold by Laverty in Northern Ireland. It's a few quid but worth trying. Keep the good work up 👍
@Waltonsbeeffarm12 күн бұрын

Great job, one thing you need to do is blank off the short angles at the end of the barriers in case a smaller animal gets their heads stuck in them, a few light bars welded upright in them would do.
@Waltonsbeeffarm15 күн бұрын
@@michaelwalsh9145 that's noted Michael, thanks for the advice 👍🏻

Great video. Any idea on the time/cost this build stands you at,,,,,compared to buying NEW feeder bars...👍💯👍💯
@Waltonsbeeffarm14 күн бұрын
Thanks for the comment! I didn't price new ones. As i said in the video, the spans are all different sizes so I couldn't buy the standard off the shelf 15' barrier I would have to get them specially made and then it's think of a figure and multiply by 2!! I reckon 20-25 hours work here and there
@lukejohnston405519 сағат бұрын
Good tidy strong job 👍 just a thiught would a extra row of block/ another 9x3 timber on the bottom not have cut down on how much they were pulling in?
@Waltonsbeeffarm18 сағат бұрын
@lukejohnston4055 I did make the mistake when I was pouring the wall that I didn't fill the shutters to the top, butt walls are 18" high on the inside, shutters were 22" high Alot of the problem is the silage is v coarse (55 dmd) so it's not that palatable. I just make bulk for cows, don't need to add flesh to them. I think the diagonal barriers was the all round best solution. I would have made them when I was building the shed only I was watching costs at the time 😢 Thanks for the comment 👍🏻
