Ned wrote this for Willie and now Orville is covering Willie and everything gets carried forward. Of note, check out Ned - he was an interesting guy.

He still is an interesting guy? He is also an academic, has multiple degrees in music, released music history books, and was a Guggenheim Fellowship recipient in the subject of music research.

I remember hearing this song once or twice when it first came out in FL. Always confused it with Lou Reeds, "Walk on the Wild Side" as the theme was similar.

FYI, this is the original. Pansy division did a cover of this in the nineties, and THEN willie Nelson did his own cover concurrent with the real ease of brokeback mountain. I'm not saying he did it for the money, but I am saying this song was good and gay way before a str8 came along.

In 1984 , I introduced this record, by the Nails, to most of my friends. It used to be in the bargain bin at any alternate record shop. It is a great record, with at least 3 classic tracks, " Let it hang out" "Mood Swing" " 88 lines about 44 women". Even their follow up album is good, worth a listen. Trouble is, no radio airplay. so none of these great tracks are familiar from the 80s, and therefore, easily dismissed. "Home of the Brave" is easily one of the best songs to come out of the 80s. The Nails are part of my 50 records that defined my life.

There actually was airplay of this song. I first heard it on an alternative rock station in Riverside County California X-103.9 (KCXX) This was back in 1994 when the station first came on the air, but I remember hearing this song played at least up until I left the area which was 1999. So I wonder if the Nails even realized it was being getting air-play back then. X-103.9 is no longer known as "The X" anymore. They are only playing mainstream rock now. They quit I think back in 2017. Very sad because they were a very unique station. They will be missed for sure 😢
