A beautiful film with a strength in it’s message- looked visually amazing on the big screen at ICON Birmingham

What an incredible project and important insights. Was moved to tears to see this level of representation. Hope it can tour different cities and countries!

"Has anything really changed ... ?". Yes. Everything. Significantly and global. To position women in 2024 as hard done to and perpetually struggling implies they have no agency or opportunity. It denigrates the work done by women in the last hundred years to change the landscape. It ignores the outstanding women of the last century. It perpetuates a division of the sexes which now only exists for those who wish it to. Be more precise in your statements as an educator.

As a SAHM of 11 years (so far) and almost 40 years old... this is really worrying... I feel for all these women, this is such an important message - thank you for hearing and sharing their voices and experiences, I hope this drives change x

Given the absurdity of 'high church' this is pretty tame in comparison. You have my straight white blessings. Wonderful.

Definitely there's plenty of information about the fact that Leonora Carrington never married Max Ernst. Dorothea Tanning did marry Ernst though...

Characterising Breton as ‘misogynist’ is a lie and slander as his long term friendships and associations with female surrealists can attest. There is ample evidence from his friendship with women like Joyce Mansour, Claude Cahun, Meret Oppenheim that this is is not in the least the case. Personally I find it curious that these same white academics comprehensively ignore the work and contributions of women of colour such as Suzanne Cesaire, Jayne Cortez and others without blinking. Isn’t it time the racism and white privilege of these art colonists is called to account?

There's some beautiful collections there. I wish the gallery would have more confidence though in presenting the art, it seemed almost ashamed to be displaying many of its painting when I visited in 2021.

The complete politicisation of art. Alistair Hudson: "how we create a culture that works for everybody", "art as a tool for social change", "art as a tool for changing society", "is the way the artworks are presented the right way for this moment in time?", "does the gallery represent all the cultures in our city?" "whose story are we telling and who decides what story is told?" "Our colonial attitude to other cultures". The taking down of Hylas and the Nymphs was about censorship, not about "opening up different voices". The Nazis banned works of art that didn't suit their taste, branding it degenerate art. That's precisely where this is going. Art is referred to as "white and male". So art is to be judged or selected according to the sex and/or ethnicity of the artist rather than according to its quality as art. To me that is extremely patronising. No one should be judged or selected merely because of their sex or ethnicity. I love the work of Gwen John, for example, because I love her paintings, not because she is a woman. Clare Gannaway asks if artworks are "relevant in the 21st century". Are the contents of the British Museum relevant in the 21st century? Or the V & A? Or the National Gallery? Or the Louvre? Or the Met? Or the Uffizi? Is Giotto relevant in the 21st century"? Or Masaccio? Or Michelangelo? Or Leonardo? Or Titian? Or Caravaggio? Or Cezanne? Or Bonnard? Or Picasso? Is it really to be the job of a curator to tell us what sort of art is relevant - i.e. to her? She talks about "this Victorian fantasy". The story was a Greek myth, not a Victorian fantasy. I've reached 20 minutes and I can't listen to this any more.

52:01 "The past does not sit still. However much we might not want it. Because we are always thinking about it from a perspective from where we are." Which is a way of explaining, rationally, why history is always revisionist

A true "women's collective"! A feminist take over. A foot in the door and the gender fascists find a new, funded centre with all the cushy privileges. Don't even consider being "included" if you're a white male.

Untalented people censoring the work of a genius of painting. A lot of bullshit spoken to justify putting resentful ideology over art in its pure state. Ridiculous.

I love Grayson's Art Club and looked forward to viewing this video. Unfortunately, due to social distancing, the narrator and unbelievably others filming at the same time, were so near the artwork discussed, it prevented the camera getting close enough to the pieces, so that we could enjoy them too.

An excellent guide to some of the artwork that we can’t get to see because of the latest lockdown. Natasha and Fiona provide an interesting insight and a great supplement to Grayson’s series if you can’t wait for the second one! Here’s hoping that MAG will be able to open its doors soon to this exhibition.
