MANY studies have shown that the longer a person is in a position of wealth and power, the more he or she displays the traits of sociopathy or psychopathy. That is, narcissism and lack of empathy, guilt, and regret tend to show up. Why? They no longer travel in ordinary social circles. They "forget where they came from, or what it's like to be a normal person". They take on the ethos of the rich and powerful. There is a general truth for all humans: "You become part of what you're around". We are extremely adaptable. It's very important to "belong".

Sounds good, but there is a flaw. If everyone got what they wanted, then the population would explode. Once all of the resources are used up, then civilization will collapse in spectacular fashion. I agree with the concept of this video, but the human race needs to overcome the origin of suffering. Craving! Which means each individual would need to have mastery over what causes us to do bad deeds. Greed and hatred. Without this: None of what is in this video can be achieved.

Here's another consequence. Ongoing stress leads to frustration and anger. Which often spills over to other people. You're stressed at work. It comes out in road rage while driving to work. Becoming more common. In other words, if enough people start suffering those consequences of ongoing stress, it becomes "contagious" in society. On average, I've been seeing it build for all of my 79 years, especially during covid and afterwards.

But I just want to know how do you find the balance especially as children get older and they become teenagers? How does one also do their best to be the best parent possible but also not losing yourself as an individual person?

Quite accurate except this is not ingrained in our DNA. Thats a misconception. Instead, it it taught to use through our culture and society. As even said in the video that this is primary in the US, its not as prevelant in many other countries.

I find it interesting about the starting of this video talking about the methods of not picking up the kid when they’re crying letting them cry while laying in their crib because they need to get used to it and all of this now I’m just an uncle and my brother has been living with me Since he had been given the three months advance notice that he was going to be a father so they have lived with me since day one we definitely did not follow that train of thought like his mother did about letting him cry and all of that stuff we constantly held him played with him, told him we loved him probably 1, million times a day. He is four years old now they still live with me and I am pretty much like a second dad rather than an uncle, but my point is he constantly tells his mom he wants to be back at our house they split the week and we have tried to do things together sometimes where he can see mom and dad at the same time, what I have noticed is when we’re out doing something as a group even if he’s out playing on the playground, he will constantly run up to myself for my brother and give us a hug or run up to tell us something that’s exciting for him while playing and tell us he loves us doesn’t even look at his mother goes right back to playing we could see this was hurting her feelings so trying to be good men when he would come up and say stuff like that we would say we love you too and what about mommy you love mommy right and he says yeah but you’re literally forcing him to go give her a hug and say these things and she is very sad every Wednesday when it’s time for him to go back to moms. No obviously I don’t know the exact reasons why we have such a better and more loving relationship with him then he does with her, but I do feel like when she was allowing him to lay in bed and cry himself out, which I think is crazy cause you never know what’s wrong with them at that age when they can’t speak, we were responding to it and holding him and making sure whatever it was was being addressed. I just have to believe this has something to do with the large contrast in how he acts towards us and her is especially when we are all together.

There is nothing to say about Gabor Mate's words. Couldn't you have made this video without using videos of children? Because children cannot consent to their videos being shot and shared. Also, I don't know what the motivation behind some of the parents I saw in the video for kissing their children on the lips is or if they learned it this way, but they should respect the physical boundaries of children. It's quite disturbing.

This needs shared in every outlet possible. Including parent/child departments, agencies I’m a testament to how things end up when treated like this. Because of God I consider myself a lucky one because I overcame sooo much pain and patterns because of HIM and because of my willingness to learn and understand. Because of Him I see love as a good thing, now. The little boy with the bird up and started to cry afterwards broke my heart. The pain in his eyes and the thoughts of so much hurt. Took my breath away because so many kids feel like this now days and at an alarming rate of younger than ever children. I also despise so many parents now days that love to film their child in his or her pain. Let alone taunt them and worse. These parents suck!!

Our daughter was sexually abused by my nephew and she is angry that we allowed it to happen . We actually didn’t allow it. Once we knew about it we reported to police and supported our daughter through the process. When she was older she accused the whole family of abuses and told the police her family was abusing her. We believe she wanted compensation because after the sexual abuses by nephew she was awarded compensation but squandered it all. She walked out of our life. It broke our heart and we forgive her but we grieve for loss of our daughter. There was much love between her and myself and we had a close relationship. But we almost lost everything because of her accusations. She publicly accused all of her brothers of sexual assault . None of this is true. The time frame was all wrong. The measures we took to keep her safe were extreme . We grieve the loss of our daughter. She was drinking at age fifteen and was always drunk and the police kept bringing her home cause she’d fallen down. I was a victim of child abuse. I received many years therapy because I knew I couldnt be there for anyone if I didn’t get help for myself. But we tried to be good parents to our 8 children. Our energies were everywhere. Please stop blaming parents.

There are many people who have children who do not have the skills to raise a child, which increases the pressure on youth care considerably. If children learn about raising children at school, it can be less likely that children have parents who cannot raise children. If people get stressed because they have come up with the wrong upbringing, I think they can become infertile. What can help to learn how to raise children is to think that your children have a family themselves, because they need many skills for that.

Gabor - you are the most compassionate and wisest man , save perhaps the Dali Lama , I have ever encountered. Your perspective is so deep , so educated , and so full of love ( profound platonic and godlike love ) that is so transcendental, words become clumsy at description . You have such a prominent position and platform and you continue to to use it to wage peace and understanding ( and demonstrating such skill - I listened to your defence in a public setting around the hideous Oct 6th attack) - May all the blessings of life on earth rain gently upon you 🙏🙏🙏🌏✌️❤️👏👏👏

As an empathic person who is only 14, this video is going to help with information I'm trying to gather to portray an animation that shows what this kind of parenting can do to a child's life. I was fortunate enough to feel loved by my family (they still sometimes scold me for doing some...childish, things, but I do understand why. They really only want the best for me, to me) and learn that I am just as important as everyone else around me. But I'm a true empath, so even when I'm not feeling the emotions, I wonder how many more children have or had to go through a not very happy childhood. It...makes me really sad just thinking about that. Even when I was 5, I always had worries that someday, something really bad would happen to me. Sometimes, I even cry over them. I was lucky to realize that this day would very likely never come, but I was so empathetic, and they were with me for so long, that I was kind of inspired by them instead. I want to make an animation (that is clearly not for kids, but is instead for the people who have kids or want kids) that would portray what this kind of parenting can do to kids, in which the parents may never realize until it is too late. Now, I don't want to portray it fully being the fault of the parents, the kid, or both. So this video is going to help me with that research. I'll admit it, I used to be kind of nervous thinking of what could happen if I were to share my own ideas. So for the longest time, I never really did. I just went on with my life, thinking that my thoughts, would just up staying as thoughts, and would not become anything more, which would be okay to me. But as someone who is also an overthinker...(specifically, an over-imaginator. Yes, I am both an empath and someone who has imaginative thoughts basically 24/7 because I am neurodivergent too.) well, I am now willing to share them all with everyone. And when I finally shared my story ideas for the first time with my Honors English Teacher, she said that she loved it and it had a ton of potential, which made me not only feel happy and secure, but I also learned that eventually, if you keep trying, you will find approval. So ever since, I felt more and more comfortable sharing more about them, and I shared them more often, too. Unfortunately, I am sure that many other kids these days may not think the same. Our choices all have consequences, including our choices for our kids (even though I'm not planning to have any kids for many reasons I'd rather keep personal). Deciding to give your children love and affection when they're feeling down, no matter how old or young they are, is going to benefit them. They are more likely to find actual real friends more easily, do better in school, stay close with their parents, and ultimately, they feel more secure about themselves. But from what I've seen and heard outside of my own family, parents seem to think that leaving their child to their own devices when they are feeling sad, hungry or whatnot is better. But it is worse...far worse than many might think, as this video shows. Ultimately, those kids might instead join a group of peers that is going to be detrimental to their overall well-being, they may feel insecure of what other people think of them, and they may lose connection with their families. And then they become just like their parents. They end up teaching the same things their parents taught them, even if they don't realize it until it is too late, creating a cycle of parental neglect. Or worse...they end up doing things that may be the bloody end of themselves or others (I DID say I was inspired from my worries that I once had. And...this stuff is what I meant, because my thoughts can be quite dark...). But for all of those people who see this comment, you can change that for your kids. You can show them the love and affection they need, even when it isn't needed the very most. Even if you are already teaching your kids the way they shouldn't be, it may not be too late to change that. Raise them the way they deserve to be raised.
