If you use, what's called a lineman's splice, you won't need to revisit the splice to tighten it up, again. You just simply bend the two ends at a 90° angle, hook them at the bends, then wrap them on the long portion of the wire, not the short portion. And, you don't loop them back on themselves. If I had a way to demonstrate on this phone.

Each LOOP weakens the wire by half. A western Union is a much better splice.

I use twist wire for the joining wire. Put loops on the end of the old wire. String out the twist wire to reach span the gap, plus extra for the hammer and double back. The wire will go threw the loop of the fence wire and duble back. So you will have two ends that go threw the loop of the other wire. With enough to use you hammer to tighten it up.

NICE TRICK BUT WHY DO YOU HAVE THAT JUNK PAIR OF DIAGONAL PLIERS ? SIDE CUTS ARE 10 TIMES BETTER AND NO NEED FOR DIAGONALS..
@jimjwalАй бұрын
barb wire should be banned , use straight wire or electric . inexpensive and more effective
@scorchedearth1451Ай бұрын
👍 Be sure you don't throw any smaller pieces of wire in the grass. Cows can eat it, and that could cause serious problems. That is why cows usually have magnets in their stomach.

I live deep in the heart of suburbia, have never left for any appreciable amount of time, and yet of late have found myself watching videos like "how to heel a calf" and "how to saddle a horse" and "how to splice a barbed wire fence." Who knows, maybe one day.

Hammers can, pound, pull, pry, dig, hoe and chop ... i have 7 in my vehicle, 3 claw hammers, one under the drivers seat, one on my tool belt, and a floater that sometimes ends up in a tool bag. 3 peening hammers for metal work and blade sharpening. And a shingling hammer i use for my fireplace ... not many cedar roofs anymore. You can make a hammer, or screwdriver quickly if you need one ... i built ikea shelves once with a rock and dime ... Lets hear it for the hanmer.
@jmi967Ай бұрын
Would it be easier to use the hammer to do the final twisting? So after the lift, instead of unwrapping it, wrap the wire while it's being uncoiled from the hammer

Is barbedless bar wire the same as what we call smooth wire? We remove the barb from "2 wire barbedwire all of the time. U twist the wire 1 twist past the barb and with your fingers pinch the barb and the 2 strands in your palm, twist and pull the barb and twist the wires back into that place. The barb will be removed while the wires will be back in place twisted.
@greenerpasturesranchingltd7621Ай бұрын
When I order it, it's called barbless barb wire. Horse people seem to like it.

This is really cool.. I could have used this when I was still a city slicker learning all the "fun" things with keeping up the property... Earned a stripe or two quite a time ago, but not without of blood, sweat and hazing from relatives and locals.. Yeah, know your wire! I popped a few older older tensioning while repairing.. That can sting you if you push the old ones bast the limit.. I got bit.. Twice.. Anyway... There was no KZbin back then but this is great info! Thank you for sharing!
