I feel like it pops up all over parenting podcasts and books and such, which is why I wasn’t sure who I first heard it from! Probably in a Dr Becky podcast since that’s my go-to for parenting advice (love her podcast and her book- Good Inside! Def worth checking out if you haven’t already)

How soon after birth before you can return to a regular yoga practice?

@@smmiller5 you can return to gentle stretching as soon as you feel up to it! Just make sure to back off if you feel any pain or start bleeding again. You should also wait until your provider clears you for regular physical activities before you return to a full/regular class. I recommend starting with beginner and easier classes at first to rebuild muscles and flexibility. Finally, make sure any diastasis recti is healed before you do any poses that will put too a lot of pressure on the abs (eg plank). I’m working on a 12-week “back to yoga” postpartum series that will help you get back to your full practice safely! Look for that in the new year 😊

yes, you can do sun salutations during pregnancy, but after the first trimester you will want to modify. Basically, you'll want to avoid any plank-chaturanga-up dog sequences, as that can be too hard on the abdominals with a growing belly. In the second trimester you could take plank on your knees and opt for a "girly" push up instead. Have you purchased a birth ball yet? They're great to use during labor and throughout your third trimester to open the hips and help baby descend. They also make a great swap for an office chair during and after pregnancy!
