Owen, mostly nice work here. But some errors in places with rhythms. Example first bar: Comes in and of 4 tied into one of the first bar, syncopation-through.

Beautiful playing. Perfect build up to that high D. A true master of creating tension ❤

An amazing solo by Vincent no doubt, but I’m wondering if I should learn from his strong portrayal of the tonic harmony or not. The changes in modern contexts can be more ambiguous to hear, so I see why he does this tonic generalization/centricity, but I also think that there is room to spell the changes out a bit more.

All of those written beat 4 up beats on the first page, are actually down beats that fall right on beat 4. E.g. the G in bar 4, the G in bar 6, bar 8, bar 10, bar 12, bar 14, etc.

Shoot you’re right, I’ll make sure to fix that in the finalized version that goes in my transcription book for Rusty Bryant Plays Jazz.

Many thanks. Is there any chance of putting in the key signature? I assume this is in G major (and the Eb version you have done is in D major).

The guy is definitely a heck of an improvisor, but one of my major hang ups with Bird is that I can't take his Tone anymore. Loved it, or was oblivious to it as a 19 or 20 year old, but now that I'm older and know all these notes it's just too hard to listen to.

Yeah Willie has my favorite tone of any alto player, for me he tops Lee, Kenny, Vince, Phil, Stitt, the list could go on.

Not to be devils advocate, but this is all diatonic, mostly 8th notes with some triplets. Focusing on basic chord tones, and not dabbling in alternate changes. I would categorize this as easy compared to many professional saxophone transcriptions even as far back as Paul Desmond who would play lines that imposed harmonies and used extensions of the chords often. It’s a nice interpretation of the melody and doesn’t push boundaries. It’s beautiful yet also simplistic :)

Easy in the sense of harmony and functions, yes... yet not something a beginner can play.. I'm in to my second montera of playing and might be able to play this in one year.. maybe 😅
