You should try it again, magnacut, glass blast finish and the ceramic ball lock bar interface would solve a lot of your problems. The solid click of the lock bar engaging is also pretty damn satisfying.

I don't think the aluminum has anything to do with the lock bar being stiff, it's just bad mechanical design. I would guess both of your aluminum frame locks were designed by the same engineering team and that's why they were both too stiff rather than the aluminum being at fault.

Gorgeous knife just too thick for me. I believe this is a much better knife than the bench made shootout, the shootout just works for me better on a daily basis. I hate it, but this knife is just too thick. It’s not easily carried in your pocket.

How’s the Axis lock on it? Normal and smooth? I just shipped mine back to exchange it for a new one. The Axis lock was gritty. It felt and sounded like two granules of sand was in it. I even lubed it, still gritty, and it was brand new. It was the S90V steel Freek with carbon fiber grips.

People who compalin about the solid backpock not being a fidget knife use it as toys instead of a heavy duty utility tool. If you buy knives to fidget and play around buy a flimsy Bugout and axis lock for light work.

Keep in mind that a given steel is a sliding scale in terms of its properties depending on the heat treat. Treating Vanax softer at around 59-60 is going to offer very high corrosion resistance but less edge retention compared to Vanax treated to 61 or 62. The latter will have better edge retention at the expense of some corrosion resistance. People tend to think that Vanax is Vanax, but each steel in a variable spectrum of inversely proportional properties depending on how it is treated 👍🏻

I carried the 940 for years. I still thank it as good as it gets. Buy what you like and enjoy it. Quit chasing what others think is better, or what is new. You will drive yourself crazy. You will find plenty of knife snobs on youtube telling something you like is not good enough.

Freek or mini Freek in S90V and carbon fiber?

Love my 560 super freek! But it's not perfect. I find myself wishing for flatter scales and a slightly thinner handle. Gonna get some aftermarket scales for it.

Great review of two great knives. Nick Shabazz would have probably mentioned the pocket pecker on the Malibu but that's neither here nor there. I'm actually thinking of getting a Malibu myself. My dealer has a couple. I'm leaning towards the Wharncliffe with Magnacut steel.

Outstanding knives but I much prefer my Microtech’s - especially with the zero blade play coming. I had this version with the G-10 in Wharncliffe and the sharpening near the choil was a bit sloppy, with a smile and the beginnings of a recurve. I am spoiled by the perfect blade grinding and sharpening of Microtech. For $229 it’s amazing, I can do without the filler plate and exposed screws.

You absolutely cannot complain about a 3.5 inch k390 spyderco for only $150 when it comes to the handle. I think they purposely made a cheap handle in order to make this one more affordable

I feel like the Oz Roosevelt gets its flowers maybe not from the general public, but certainly from the community. The Protean and Princton Customs, hoewver, I've had no experience with nor heard much about. Ill certainly have to check them out!
