I saw the tree in about 2005 when my freind and I finally got to Ireland, her ancestral home. We promised ouselves in the 60s that we would visit. and were amazed when her Auntie took us to the magic tree. The car going backwards up the hill was amazing. Disgusting that mindless vandals destroyed it.

Although probably wasn't war dead but found a photograph among my father effects of a guy that was on the Skokholm in 1944-1945 that goes by the name of Ted L Cartwright who probably served in and around Salerno in Italy if anybody knows of his family.

I visited the cottage in the 1980's with my late wife and my brother and his wife ! Met the lady who was married to the Captain who started the collection! She charged a few pence admission, and offered to make us tea! Ill never forget my trip there, as all are gone ,except Me, I'm going on 80!

@AussieRoads6 жыл бұрын
No John. This is on the better side of the Bridge. Cathal Brugha Place, near the old Hospital.

+Bendigo Dashcams Oh! Thanks! Didn't know there was a "better side", lol. Not from Dungarvan but passed through many many times - seems to be a really nice town.

It was a great town to grow up in during the 80's and 90's. From what I hear these days, a tad different.
@johnconway80706 жыл бұрын
+Bendigo Dashcams It was in the eighties mainly - on the way from Cork to visit cousins in Wexford (we went there a lot back then) we always stopped at Dungarvan to stretch our legs and have a bite to eat so I have those very fond memories . I guess all towns and cities have changed - and not all for the better either :( .

A couple of months back I too bought a TV/DVD combo from Tesco Outlet. Just outside the one month cash back period the sound quickly deteriorated. I sent it back to be repaired and foolishly didn't take down the serial number, as I'm pretty sure they sent back the same one (since the sound was just as bad). They were a but slow to respond in the first place but now they have stopped communicating altogether. Advice anyone?

I wish this museum had existed when I was stationed with the 4th Aviation Company later to become the 180th Aviation Company. That was 1972. I spent a total of five years there between 1972 and 1984. I was always intrigued with its history. Even as late as 1972, talking about the German military history at Dolan Barracks was done in hushed tones. I still remember the eagle on the MP station wall at the main gate. Even though the swastika had been removed, you could still see the out line of it. The recreation center on the outside wall next to the street still had “Adolf Hitler Strasse” on it in stone. All gone now I’m sure. Fond memories.
