I think most people forget that back when the movie was released there were no inhibitor chips and the clones just did it because they were loyal soilders.

if you think about it, by this time the Jedi Council was trying to kill the chancellor and seize power, the clones are obliged to follow order 66 and without inhibitors, since the Jedi are declared traitors

I never thought the inhibitor chips were necessary for the plot. The clones worked for the Republic. The Jedi attempted to arrest/execute the chancellor of the Republic without due process. This is essentially the Jedi order declaring war on the Republic and the Army of the Republic responding accordingly.

The Clone's Inhibitor Chips is a retcon and I preferred the original idea where it was just part of their program.

I mean he's still the commanders and chief of the Republic isn't he? Also now he's the Emperor or the Chancellor for life by this point, so he's the absolute leader of the military.

Fact is, many clones were far too loyal to their Jedi generals to just execute them on the spot due to a single order. Without the inhibitor chips, I'd say at least half the Jedi that were inside their clone armies would have survived. It'd be like the Roman Senate ordering Julius Caesar's own soldiers to kill him. It wouldn't happen.

In old lore the most Jedi did not treat the clones well. They treated them thought of them as nothing more than a tool. Many clones in this lore felt the Jedi had no business leading a war and thought of their tactics as subpar and got a lot of men killed for no reason. Most of this animosity from before was due to Genonsis and how the Jedi basically had them charge head long into blaster fire.

@@rannenw6207 Even Legends was inconsistent on this. But yes, there were portrayals of clones being resentful and some eager to betray the Jedi. But the more modern Clone Wars series paints a very different picture now.

The clones saying “my lord” indicates they knew all along. Chip or no chip. In clone wars, Rex straight up calls Palpatine “Lord Sidious” (which is probably an error by the show runners but, oh well)

I don’t remember the title but I read book where a clone regiment did not want to kill their Jedi general but instead protect them and so Vader and the 501st has to come in and finish the job. No chip was mentioned but just following orders.
