At 7:08...What is that solution you are putting on the wood?
@theimaginationwoodshop588610 күн бұрын
For this project I went super simple and just did boiled linseed oil. Normally I use Teak or Tung oil, but I didn't want to have the wood darken too much.

For this design I used linseed oil. I wanted simple and an oil that wouldn't darken the wood. Normally I use teak or tung oil on many of my other designs.

Great video. I think it came out beautiful. Unfortunately, I sell my stuff at a consignment store and the buyers are very cheap. It took me about 3 months to sell a 49 dollar cutting board that would usually go for about $80. You wouldn't have a video on how you made the mold do you? That's where I screw up.
@theimaginationwoodshop588628 күн бұрын
Sounds like selling on consignment may be the bigger issue. I do not have a mold specfic video, but have you considered doing craft shows. A board like this would sell from 75$-$150 depending on the level of craft show you are doing. Just a thought. I don't sell on consignment or online shops like ETSY for this reason - I don't feel I get enough return on investment. Just my .02 - best of luck to you and thanks for watching!

That’s satisfying to see how that first layer comes out. Probably a little terrifying also. Can I ask, where do you purchase your lumber from?
@theimaginationwoodshop5886Ай бұрын
In Houston there are two lumber mills I purchase from: Mason Mills for bulk and most hardwood, and then Clark's for harder to get exotics.

Very nice, I would have used CA glue and accelerator for the glue up, very nice project though..
@theimaginationwoodshop58862 ай бұрын
Using CA glue with an accelerator certinaly been faster, but also more expensive. Unless it's going to be an awkward glue up where I might not be able to get good clamping pressure - then I would use CA. In a regular application such as this I always default to wood glues. Defintely a good option though. Thanks for the input and thanks for watching!

Recommend you rise your blade a little higher. Several times during cutting your wood raised up. You should have at least 3 gullets showing above the cut. That makes the saw dust exit better from the cut. You get less burning and more control of the wood. Nice project.
@theimaginationwoodshop58862 ай бұрын
That is fantastic feedback, thank you! That was a very dense and hard wood I was cutting, and truth be told - I need to get my blade sharpened. It's time.

Wonderful concept, beautifully executed with a stunning result. Such a nice, personal gift. However...the light colored wood is maple, not ash.
@theimaginationwoodshop58862 ай бұрын
So I'm glad you said that. I have multiple pieces of ash and maple that I got in a mix pile that I use. However, looking at it in person, I'm 99% sure it was one of my pieces of Ash. I could be wrong, but love both species of wood. Thanks for watching!
@leonardbutler93382 ай бұрын
@@theimaginationwoodshop5886 45 yrs of experience tells me it is not ash. Ash resembles oak. It is an open porous wood while maple is closed grained and smooth. Best wishes!
