I’m a goalie and have been pushed down by coaches favourites and kids but I’m gonna push and prove to them they were wrong for not taking me. I had a coach pull me because of one goal.

I played the sport for a long, long time, had to quit because of an injury but I don't regret a minute of playing. I still revisit this video every once in a while because it's that good. I learned a thing or two after all those years so if you'll humor me, I got a couple words of advice for those aspiring to be better at the sport: 1. The team is the most important part of the game. Your teammates should be your ride or dies. No matter what, never fight with them, help them out whenever you can, and always have their back on the ice. The thing I look back on the most fondly was the team aspect of the game. 2. If you want to make it, start putting in the work when no one else is. Be the first one on and the last one off at practice. Put in the hours at home if you gotta practice your stickhandling or shooting. Do the cardio and the weightlifting. Don't just try hard when your ego is on the line or when you're trying to impress somebody. The only one you should be trying to impress is yourself. 3. Win and lose with dignity. You may get your ass kicked somedays but throwing a temper tantrum isn't helping anyone. If you beat someone that had it coming to them, don't rub it in, shake hands and leave. 4. Never trash talk the ref to his face. It doesn't matter if he made a bad call. Don't let your stupidity hurt the team. 5. If you ever get to a point when you're no longer having fun, it's time to reevaluate. Yes hockey is competitive, but the pressure shouldn't be so much that you aren't enjoying the game anymore. Remember why you started playing in the first place. If you're not playing with passion, you might as well not play at all. 6. Pass the puck to an open teammate. I don't care if you think you can deke your way through the entire defense, a goal is a goal. Plus, I always thought assists were just as important. 7. Despite what some might say, your goalie is your most important player. Treat him like it. 8. Learn how to check and how to take a check as soon as you can.

I want to be a professional hockey player when I grow up, but from this point, I gotta give it everything I got, practice everyday, nonstop, as much as I can, if I want to succeed in life.

loved listening to this before a game.. as a goalie, suited up, head inside the neck hole in my chest protector to take away the lights and going over possible plays that might come my way. I wish i could find that intensity again.

i played single a every year for my entire career so far and one day my coach sat me down and told me i would never score goals. i would never dangle. my job was to be a third line grinder and i needed to except it. after getting cut from that team i moved to a different town team and worked my tail off over the summer to prove that coach i wasn’t bad. we played them during the season and tied 1-1 but i played a hell of a game and got to laugh at him when we got off the ice fast forward two years to where i am now i play for a AAA team, i’m the best kid on the team and the hardest worker and most passionate player by far. all the coaches who cut me for aaa begged me to play for them this year telling me how good they would make me after telling me i sucked. when trying out for one of the top teams in the us i saw that coach again and he told me he would never have expected me to get as good as i am now. i’m 14 years old with the whole world infront of me. if you see this don’t think “i wish i could be that good” go out there and get better. work as hard as you can and one day you will be here too
