I have NO idea why youtube recommended me your video honestly. Haven't seen your stuff before, don't watch anything... looks like mostly car related glancing at the channel. Anyway, that being said, I'm glad it did! Good video, love the message, thank you. Have a happy new year and yeah, let's build one another up in 2025! All the best internet stranger!

Preventative maintenance: Wouldn't it be a good idea to have all the bushings replaced since that's part of the root cause failure?

i'm looking for advise. My story: I have a 98 2..8 roadster. Pristine condition. under 50K miles. I've recently installed power flex subframe bushings, eibach lowering springs and bilstein b8 shocks. I'm struggling with what diff bush to use. Last, I would like to autocross the car. There are about 10 a year where I am. S0, two questions. Call I use a powerflex bushing without risking the spot weld issue? And, can this car be autocrossed without installing the 'forbes 'system? If this is out of your wheelhouse, I understand.

Hey I've been driving my z3 1.9 in autoslalom/autocross for one and a half seasons now, and for the 2024 season i had kw v2 and powerflex black on everything except motor and gearbox. So far I haven't had any problems but a friend of mine drives a s54 z3m cupe with kw v2 don't know about bushes though but his welds have broken now after I think 2-3 seasons so I can't say for sure but i think it's only a matter of time when driving like you do when autocrossing so I'd probably do it soner rather than later. But if you can weld you could do it yourself rather easily i think. I'm going to do it just haven't gotten around to it yet.

@@maxct827 Thank you for your feedback. you are having success due to the engine size I'd guess. Seems I either do the Forbes sys or I don't autocross it. Thank you again. If anyone else has a thought, please chime in...

I had my first oil change on my 2018 Subaru XV GT7 at 1,000 km and I can assure you that under a powerful LED flashlight, looking into the collection tray, I could see millions of tiny micro particles. I was impressed by this. I had my second oil change at 4,000 km. I can confirm that, on Subaru's opposed cylinder engines, performing several oil changes during the break-in period will make a big difference in the future when the engine and its internal parts age. My engine currently has 55,000 km and performs very well until reaching the injection cut-off. It was progressively adapted during the break-in period by monitoring the oil temperature and strategically increasing the revs during this period, up to 10,000 km. If I had kept the oil without replacing it until the first 15,000 kilometers as recommended by my official service, those micro particles would act like SANDPLAY, generating unnecessary wear.

Matt (Kludge?) couple things on the dyno chart. IMHO (I'm NOT an expert), your dyno sheet shows that you should shift at about 5900rpms, rather than loose power holding it until 7000. Am I missing something? Excited to see the COTA track sticker on your car :-) Thank you so much for sharing your experience / expertise on the Z3!

Do you know if there are different colors of uv dye and where to find them? I used yellow in my engine oil because there is a contaminant in my coolant that mechanics aren't able to diagnose yet. So now that I want to leak test my cooling system, I need a different color than yellow. I tried to Google it and didn't get far. I'n about to watch this video, so my bad if you already mentioned it.

Does the oil analysis on a brand new filled engine tell you if subaru used conventional or synthetic oil? Curious if subaru uses break-in oil and if changing too early at around 1000 miles with synthetic oil might be bad for the engine.

11:22 remove the air box and alternator and separate it from the top. you dont need to drop the subframe. however, its harder to get leverage on the split joint from the top, so put some heat on the aluminum split joint before trying to separate it from the column

if the ideal temp is between 175-200 degrees that is hot....you say you want the fluid to be warm.....175 degrees is hot......140 hot water will give you burns....imagine what 175 degree fluid will do....I had a regular car with an oil cooler and even when it was 90 degree F outside the AFT fluid never got over 140 degrees.....the transmission was original....reg fluid changes and shifted like a swiss watch after 200,000 miles. Problem with the car was age and rust caused by excessive road salt

Excellent video. My Z3 encountered a water leak into the trunk area. The butyl tape in this tacking bow area was literally melted down inside, due to the high heat of the summer. I will need to remove the back side of this soft top and redo the butyl tape. Your video allowed me how to remove this tacking bow bolts, without removing the rest of the soft top. Thank you so much for the information. Instead of using the butyl tape, I might use a silicone sealant, or urethane sealant. They don't melt under the sun, but it may be extremely difficult to remove next time.

I'm confused here. I have a 97 1.9 that came with 138 hp from factory and you've been spending all this time and money on a 2.5 6 banger, just to have 147 and then 159 hp. Ridiculous. My M54 330i has 225 from factory. Stop spending money and dump an M54 in it!
@Dagger19602 ай бұрын
you ARE actually confused :-) I believe you are comparing crank HP with wheel HP. Here, he's quoting wheel HP.
@likits19992 ай бұрын
@@Dagger1960 Thanks for replying. Educate me about that then, please. I keep reading about HP at the wheels and I only go by whats specified from the factory. I need to learn the difference because mybe Im not the only one who goes by the factory specs? If you go by 138 hp at the crank, as per factory specs, how much am I really getting at the wheels? Looking forward to your answer!!! Thanks in advance!!!
@Dagger19602 ай бұрын
@@likits1999 Manufacturers typically quote HP at the engine's crank / flywheel. This is measured while an engine is on a test bench. What's being talked about here is 'wheel HP'. The difference is that there are allot of frictional losses transferring that power thru the drivetrain (drive shaft, differential, half shafts and so on). These losses typically amount to about 15%. An M54 engine that has 225 mfr's spec'd HP will typically have about 190HP at the wheels. Does this help make sense of it? The manufacturer likes to use the crank HP because it's a bigger number with an added excuse that, the frictional losses can vary, on different vehicle types. I think it would be safe to assume that all wheel drive systems will tend to have greater %'s of 'losses' due to additional moving parts. Your 138 at the crank is likely ~117 at the wheels.
@likits19992 ай бұрын
@@Dagger1960 Excellent explanation. Shady manufacturers. Thanks so much for taking the time to explain this. I really appreciate it. Now I depressed because my Z3 may only have 105 hp because it has 255,000 miles. Anyway, thanks again and have a good night. :)
