Exquisite design and execution. Only wish the photographer would slow down a bit. Scanned areas much too quickly to really appreciate the planting design.

Lovely, but i hope the owners like gardening or have a permanent staff of gardeners as that is a really high maintenace garden!
@Ericthegreat14832 ай бұрын
You’d expect staff with that size home and the fact they have staff quarters. Maybe the kitchen garden is left as a hobby (at least that’s what I would do! 😆)

NASCAR could’ve had a BLAST here if Brooklands was still opened!

Way too rough and inadequate for the 200 mph speeds of modern superspeedway cars. The same niche is filled by modern high banked tracks such as Daytona and Talladega that have all of modern safety and infrastructure improvements.

The steering wheel on this is massive. It must've been like steering a ship.
@TS-ef2gv28 күн бұрын
Common on all cars of that era up to even the 1950s and '60s. With no power assist, a larger diameter steering wheel gives the driver more leverage and makes it easier to turn the wheel.

Not a bad video. Sadly you missed a crucial portion of the survival of Brooklands. In 1967 Motoring Journalist William Boddy, BB to many, formed the Brooklands Society. There was a small group of enthusiasts trying to save the circuit prior to that point. There was also a Golden Jubilee day in 1957. For many years the society gallantly battled with bureaucracy and multiple efforts by local councils and developers to demolish the entire track. In 1987 the Museum Trust was formed. The trust and the Society continued to co exist for some years, Occasionally locking horns. Eventually after a couple of attempts the Society was integrated into the Museum Trust, in what some members described as a semi hostile take over.

Its a terrible shame the track isnt intact Its a lot like the Indianapolis motor speedway here in the states We almost lost it after WW2 Thankfully it was saved from demolition I would have loved seeing a race at Brooklands
@TS-ef2gv28 күн бұрын
Brooklands was similar to Indy in age and historical significance but very different in layout and construction. With 30° banking, it was more like Daytona (31° banked turns and 18° in the tri-oval) or Talladega (33° and 16.5°), but with several variable layouts of up to 3.3 miles instead of a set, 2.5 and 2.66 mile tri-oval main layout like those two. Indy's layout is just a big, 2.5 mile rectangle with four separate, almost flat (banked only 9°), nearly identical ninety-degree left turns.

Interesting, but somewhat misleading to show Campbell's bluebirds at Brooklands, since none of his LSR records were set there.
@raffriff4221 күн бұрын
OK I had to look that up. You are correct. If you believe Wikipedia, Kenelm Lee Guinness set speed records at Brooklands with a Sunbeam 350 (shown at 2:49), that was later sold to Campbell and renamed 'Blue Bird.'

I visited Brooklands in 1982, to buy Lancia parts at Tony Brooks Lancia Garage. I could swear, If you closed your eyes and listened . You could hear the sound of the early racing cars on the Banked parts of the Circuit.

The world will never go fully electric it is not sustainable, the mining required for all the batteries is worse for the environment and our power grid will never be able to fully sustain every person with a car (appx 3 per household) to charge their cars overnight all at once - not to mention all the busses, delivery vans, truck etc. Electric being the future is a myth not to mention the petrol industury is worth trillions, money talks, money wins.

Back in the 70s I spent many a sunday afternoon on the members banking with a couple of mates clearing trees out of the concrete. This was done unofficially and several times we were chased off by the security though sometimes were allowed to carry on as we weren`t doing any harm, just improving the place.
@RoyCousins Жыл бұрын
The use of Asphalt and Tarmac was in its infancy when Brooklands was built, so it's not surprising it was never used. In it's early form, Tarmac would probably not have been stable enough to stay in an even layer on the steep banking.

I don't understand - why is Charles Rolls desribed as "infamous"?
@RoyCousins Жыл бұрын
Very odd. He was the youngest son of 1st Baron Llangattock and a keen proponent of engineering, cycling, motoring and flying, but I've never heard of any "infamy".
@TS-ef2gv28 күн бұрын
Likely because the people who did this otherwise well done video didn't know what the word means, and/or thought it meant "famous". Like the word "literally", it's not uncommon these days to see or hear it misused in a way that's the exact opposite of its literal meaning.
