Heavy counters. A flame thrower with crits vs a mini gun would not win. Numbers counters pyro. Pyros got low DPS and is very weak to chip damage. Good positioning is needed for pyro. If there is not then pyro will lose every battle.

realistically, its because you're bad at the game, and doesn't have anything to do with the reasons you plotted out in this video. anyone who has the ability to explore and grind all the quirks of the source engine never end up on sniper, because there's so much to learn in tf2. but you settle on sitting in a corner of the map and clicking on people who aren't even fighting you, because you lack the ability to juggle any information besides a silhouette in front of your crosshair. only the people with the inability to get better at all the facets that make tf2 the game it is end up playing sniper. you can just admit it's too hard to play a class that requires anything beyond aim; no need to try and justify it. some people are just bad at videogames, and developers know that, that's why they add snipers to their games.

Sniper is necessary, but isn't kept in check because of big sight lines. With your 2fort example, a sniper on the lower floor of the building can see everything except the top of the bridge and the water. The top of the bridge is only accessable to 5/9 classes and the water takes much longer just to get to multiple chokes.

please don't make sniper's rounds projectiles. the huntsman is proof enough of how janky a projectile that can headshot ends up being, at least in this game. quickscope damage nerfs are limited in how impactful they are, you either lower it to 125-149, meaning the only one-shot dmg threshold you've removed is against medics which isn't much at least in pubs, or you reduce it to below 125 meaning that sniper can no longer one-shot any class, which would make sniper v sniper even more aids than it is now. you could reduce sniper's max hp to below 125 so that SvS mechanics remain the same, which tbh I wouldn't mind, but imo if you are going to make quickscopes do less than 125 you should increase sniper's fire rate between shots so he has to rapidly hit back to back quickscopes to kill anyone quickly (while still giving him a low magazine capacity with a long reload). I would also be in favour of lowering sniper's max hp to 100 in general to make him even less viable up close due to general spam (and less tanky with overheal). also just rework danger shield entirely into something else. jarate should only be able to apply mini crits to one target, it's meant to be an anti-spy tool but in reality you can throw it on a control point and just win a team fight, it's stupid. bushwacka combo just shouldn't be a thing, sniper shouldn't have any easy close range damage options.

Nerfing the quickscope damage is only a buff for the Medic (objectively speaking, the STRONGEST class in the game), the bullet drop and not being hitscan would just turn sniper rifles into a weird version of the huntsman. The rest of the changes seem fine to me, but the rest is pretty bad.

As someone who has toyed with the impacts of a sniper nerf on a server, sniper as a class is balanced, but the rifle itself is op, if you nerf the rifle you'll need to compensate him in other areas, as he is extremely reliant on his team front-lining for him and without them he tends to crumble. his secondary is also garbage so he has almost no self defense up close aside from quickscopes and luck. The best way to nerf the rifles, simply reduce the uncharged headshot damage to 120, that does 70% of the work interms of balance, aside from that maybe bodyshots could be addressed, but it's less nessesary. In his weakened state you could hand him a new mehcanic like a nerfed version of the VSH wall climb to help with escaping, and reaching SLIGHTLY out of the way areas to allow you to build charge for killing, ideally combine with a scope glint or tracer. There's all kind of things you could do besides this, an idea I toyed around with was lowering his reload speed to be stupid low, and implement a system where based on the value of the kill you get the reload speed increases, but this would make him very inconsistent to play and fight. The max projectile speed in TF2 without major bugs is manmelter, and hitting ranged shots with that is iffy, not to mention head hitboxes for projectiles are a pain in the ass. I'd avoid that. Bullet drop is a cool idea, but I don't beleive TF2's engine can handle hitscan bullet drop currently Glare can help, but it doesnt do enough to adjust the instakill potential Damage fall off seems like it'd work at first, until you remember that certain maps where he is effective are actually fairly close quarters and his team front-lining is what lets him get shots, and then with falloff he'd become very map dependent. Longer reload, MIGHT work, but you run into the issue of player dissatisfaction and frustration, something noted on the gravel pit commentary was the team had a hard time balancing him, given what I noticed when changing reload, likely this would cause many to drop him. Sniper voiceline should exist. Period. Reducing bullet capacity has been done on the HIGPS balance servers, it did little to nothing. Exploits should be fixed. Tracers can do a bit but like glare are insufficent on they're own, also putting a downside on every rifle like limits balance opportunities for later down the road, not a major problem but can make future balance a pain, esp when a buff for a particular rifle might be to remove the tracers, which is then met with backlash due to ideal absolutism which is very common in the community.

Honestly I really think that the only things that are needed to fix sniper is to nerf quickscoping to like 100 damage and add a scoped in laser line to show sniper’s sightline. A sniper voiceline is absolutely needed too

I agree on the Sniper nerf, the Spy buff, not so much. As a Spy main, he's overpowered if you're good enough at him, and in general does his job really well currently. The only change I see necessary is nerfing the Diamondback.

honestly, add 1, 2, 3, 5, and a tame version of 7, and I think that fixes the issues. He'd still be viable and strong, but thats inevitable to keep the viability of the character AND the concept of the character alive at the same time. Damage falloff would be hard but I think that it could be done differently for him. (ie: damage falloff starts after 50 meters, affected by 50% of default damage falloff, etc)

Sniper is already a balanced class compared to others. The only thing he needs to nerf is the damage and time of a charged shot from a sniper rifle (at 0% - from 150 to 125, and at 100% from 450 to 300).

Can’t agree with the sniper agreement anymore. I die way more often to spies than snipers. I consistently see spies top score more often than snipers. Good soldier mains change games, good spy mains change games. Don’t punish people cuz they’re good at something.

better than average spies top scoreboards in pubs because they get 2 points for every backstab. if you are dying to spies that much more often than snipers you aren't playing against even just decent snipers

Personally my opinion on Sniper is that he was kind of balanced in the beginning. A class that is really strong as long range should be weak As close range tut as soon as powerful unlocks like jarate came by, it's fucked up everything.

No, I really hate snipers, but the bullet drop... that's just too much. To make the sniper balanced, three things need to be nerfed: Quick scope time: Increase it from 0.2 seconds to 0.5 or even 0.7 seconds. Ammo count: Reduce the amount of ammunition available. No random critical hits on melee weapons: This is especially frustrating when you're playing against a sniper. Additionally, tweaks to the Jarate + Bushwacka combo are necessary to balance it further. On the other hand, some buffs are also needed: Buff the bow. Buff the SMG and the Cleaner’s Carbine (especially). The sniper is a long-range class and doesn’t need to excel at close-range combat. This is why weapons like the Scorch Shot are problematic. Pyro, being a close-range class, shouldn't counter snipers at long range. You wouldn’t expect a Pyro to one-shot a sniper from across the map (which the Scorch Shot can do due to afterburn damage). The same logic should apply to the sniper. It's unfair to be one-shot ("tabbed") by a sniper at close range within 0.2 seconds or to be hit with a random critical melee attack dealing 195 damage, especially when playing his counter, the Spy. Three nerfs are needed to address these issues and balance the gameplay.

i think its really easy for sniper to get a lot of damage really quickly without much skill needed, incredibly fast reload for a weapon that does 50 base damage with no drop off and a mag of 25 he can force people to just walk back to spawn because continuing with -50 health and a sniper on you is never worth it, the base damage and reload speed needs to be nerfed, the mag is fine-ish if you fix the other two, increase reload speed so people can move up without being locked down and reduce hip fire to 25 damage, about no higher than 125 for fully charged body shot and 125 for a no charge head shot and 175-200 for fully charged body shot This will let people realise its safe to move up past the sniper sightline if he sucks bad, not be forced to go back and forth for an hour because 25 is only occasional life changing health which is what we want This will also still let snipers quick scope scouts(who are also op as fuck) and stock engies while severely damaging every other class who theoretically should not be at full health as sniper should not be played as the primary pushing force so they will still get 1 shot head shot kills (if he's played right) on scout, pyro, stock soilder, demoman maybe, engi and other snipers, because when theres a team verse team of enemys no one is at full health plus taking into account suppoused dutys of characters like soilder is probably either roaming (rocket jump damage) or leading assaults which will lead him below that fully charged line and occaisonally below the 1 shot line etc TLDR: to fix sniper is to reduce reload time and reduce damage so people can move up and stay in fights slightly longer (Minimum not instant headshot) taking into consideration the average player skill of 50/50 body to headshot etc

Nobody sats this and bever suggested this but the solution is to lower Sniper's overall quickscope time to about 1 second & lower the quickscope damage to about 90. Then change the damage of the charge bars to make the damage similar.

It sometimes bothered me how quickly Sniper reloads a primary for the stock. And it isn't satisfying to watch either even with custom animations because I want to see him putting a bullet in his rifles. Especially since sniper rifles only hold one bullet in their chamber.
