How do you sell to a mill? Just cold call them and offer logs, or do you have to know someone in the business?

You just got to go to a mill and tell them what you got and they will set it up so you can haul your logs in anytime. A few certain mills you got to get a contract with to do so but most won't need any contract. Alot of guys I know will come to your job site and bid on your logs if you lay them out

I didn’t get a good look at the leaves, but it appears to be next to some small Ash trees, but the bark and dark heartwood says, Hornbeam!!! (it’s in the ash family)! Yeah it’s easy to cut green, but dead-standing it’s “ironwood”, (sparks flying off your bar hard, hot burning, hard to split too)!!! But, it burns hot as hell in a wood stove, it’s like the 2 hottest tree BTU/per/ lbs. you can find in Eastern Forests!!! Some call it “blacksmith wood” or “axe handle wood”, referred to up here, in Maine! We have a lot up here, but I’m not sure if it’s common down that far (Pennsylvania, right)? It Could be, the leaves look pretty close to an ash tree, same family just,(it’s badass cousin, Bub)!!! Hope it helps $$$!

@@scottb6098 you would probably average 50 cents a board foot on the stump. Meaning standing Trees in your woods you got to sell and someone has to invest lots of money and hardwork to get the trees out and to the buyers. So another way to look at it is you should receive 600 dollars a load for low grade logs, and your nicer grade logs should be roughly 1000 bucks a load for you.
