Yeah the variance in these seems off I'd rather have gotten 2 pre release kits especially as I didn't get the promo cards. Wait until you see the second video. Did you buy more than one box?

That sounds awesome. I think the way to work out what works is to just get playing because even of you pick either classic or alphastrike you still don't know what optional rules you local group is going play and with alphastrike the terrain your group uses really effects which mechs perform best. If the simulation aspect of mechwarrior is what you enjoy most dive into battletech classic, if your new to miniature games jump on alphastrike the rules are less intimidating and is a fast fun game. Luckily if you buy models they work perfectly in both system. Personally I pick mechs with big firepower or that look pretty then keep picking more until I hit the points limit

@@2manmeta Yeah just played in my first game in a long time at a local game store today. Mistakes were made and lessons learned! Gunnery and pilot skills are so important to manage as well as having a lance makeup that can adapt to open and closed terrain. All great stuff though and am looking forward to the next get together!

That's great to hear glad you enjoyed it. Yes in my first alphastrike games with swift we were building different on purpose to see what works. He played a lot skillb 1 and 2, I played aiming to weight of damage dice. Turned out hitting more consistently in that game won over brute force

I wasn't sold at first but it's growing on me. The ebon Jaguar is my favorite in this box

@2manmeta It has stood up wonderfully. I keep mine in the original box and that secures it wonderfully. Only complaint I have is that my toxic pools kit falls out of the box often just due to the design. One caveat to how it holds up, I never added any of the static grass to the edges. Back in the day each kit came with a small bag or two of it. But so far I have not had any sort of chipping or physical damage. Hope you get many hours of enjoyment out of yours.

Yeah I got the flock in one my boxes. I've noticed a few bubbles holes from the casting after a lot more looking but they clearly aren't that noticeable. Are your pools flexible? I got some and they bend a lot

Yeah battletech has some great designs and catalyst have done a great job on the models

Yes. Both new to the game and focused more to alpha strike at the moment, don't get me wrong classic is an amazing game just focused on quick and easy at the moment. Yeah it's a shame the minor differences get lost in translation to alpha strike. I wish they'd just print more card packs for the stuff that's only on the master unit list. I really enjoy list building by sorting through cards and they are really handy in game over print outs or rosters

I loved the cartoon as a kid. I bought it because I'm buying everything but it was a pleasant surprise. Both those mechs alone are reason tho. I love them both just opening the box

Sorry, I was referring to the Marauder. Yeah, it has a bad seam placement issue, that deforms the left canopy glass. Looks clean in your video, though. So I assumed the factory updated the mold

@@2manmeta well through Salvage anything is possible but the Spider and dragon are Kurita favourite and manufactured, the Thug was Cannibalised along with the Charger to make the Hatamoto Chi

That's really cool. So far I've only managed to get through the comstar source book but absolutely loved it. Guess kurita is next on my list

That's cool I'm always torn with in era because everyone seems like the good guys and bad guys at the same except the draconis combine those guys never seem like the good guys. So far I've liked every era of comstar for different reasons they seem so well written

@@2manmeta in most of the time eras draconis combine and capellan confederation seams to take turnes in who is the main "bad guy" or villian.

I'm looking forward to getting deeper into the lore with more source books. I'm thinking star league and mercenaries next as what I've read about wolfs dragoons seems great

Seems like a really great way into the game. This is such a great mix of mechs and more than a standard lance gives you play around as well. I just hope we get a comstar card pack for alpha strike with extra variants of these mechs. I know MUL is thing I just really like how handy and well designed the cards are

Yeah I wish the beginner boxes came with alpha strike cards, it's my only complaint really. The clan invasion box was a pain as well alpha strike cards for all the mechs but not the elementals. As a n00b I really like the alpha strike cards as an option over MUL until I have some idea what each mech does

I was hoping the old models on the cards was just as place fillers as they were probably released before a lot of the new models. Thanks for the information I'll have to try and check them against MUL and see if they are up to date

Yeah I think I was just a bit down on this box because the armored combat and alpha strike were so good. It's definitely not a bad box 5 bases of elementals instead of 2 would made it feel a lot better to me so you could play a game out of with mechs and battle armor on both sides to introduce battle armor to both players and so as a single player buying it you get a full nova.

You can download the rules and use thecardboard mechs to go on a clan vs clan quickstart match, thats what i did when i purchased this one.

I ended playing clan invasion star vs the clan star from the the alpha strike box as they are both pretty close in PV and end up just needing a couple skill boosts to round off the PV

Yes it's such good value for what you get and it's got two great starter armies. I cant say enough good things about the battletech boxes I'll be getting all of them and probably everyone catalyst put out

@@2manmeta I allready bought such many boxes, Alpha Strike, the newest Battletech Box, the Beginner box (not the one from your other video but with the wolverine and the griffin) and a lot of the Lance and star-boxes. All of them are great.

as a player since it's inception, a few suggestions for the card stock mechs. we use them as generic enemy forces. this increases the number of units available and clearly distinguishes between friend and foe. as a teaching tool like you stated. however, we give the new players the plastic models to use as this puts the good product in thier hands. if you are playing campaign style, they can represent third or fourth factions that unexpectedly arrived at the battle. on a separate note, the standard game plays on a hex map. however, it also plays just fine on 3D terrain board using tape measure. while the hex map is 1-1/4 inch, using the tape measures, simply use 1 inch. I am not referring to Alpha strike, which has very loose movement rules. still use the standard movement rules for facing changes and changing elevation. it takes a few games to get used to Terrain play, but the battlefield can be much more dynamic.
