I like how Cody's memory of Big Z is distorted. 1:03 *He walks right up to me,* he literally pushes through the crowd 1:08 *He gives me this awesome one of a kind Big Z necklace,* there are a bunch of them 1:13 *And he tells me "Kid, never give cause that's what winners do",* Z just smiles

The ptsd these poor people must deal with, like a day to day roller coaster of intense emotions from terror, fear, anger, sadness, disbelief. I can not comprehend it. These are truly strong people, I hope some of them have found some type of mental peace, or relief from telling their stories 😢

Love where they gathered the people up and hand them papers that basically say that if you die in the eruption, it is all your own fault, and you can't sue if you die. Interesting point is that officials use these same forms to get people to sign away responsibility.

The way Stanley describes trauma response of his body & brain without using medical terms. As soon as the tower fell and his adrenaline levels dropped, there's memory lapses, confusion, agitation, aggression, loss of speach...

I was nine years old when St. Helens blew, ten when this movie came to HBO. I watched it a few times back then. The final scene closing in on the lonely tree sprouting from the ash stuck with me the most...hope and promise for the future amid the utter devastation. Flash forward about a decade, I did a research paper in college on the natural succession in the immediate area, which has provided scientists with a unique and unprecedented arena to test theories and make real-world observations as the biomes around the mountain reestablished themselves. The speed of recovery outpaced most guesses and models, much as it's done in Yellowstone after the catastrophic fires there a few decades back. The tenacious and opportunistic drive of life to thrive wherever it can seize hold is a thing of wonder.

Would’ve been disturbing and sad if someone actually told Melanie that nobody is coming and it’s just us before he/she jumped and she died knowing they were right, I’m sure a lot of people said something to their coworkers in the upper floors before jumping unfortunately…….

All these people are supposed to be super intelligent working high paying white collar jobs as CEOs, accountants, executives, managers etc but yet they dont have the BASIC intelligence or survival instincts or just basic COMMON SENSE to leave a burning building ASAP. They instead have DEBATES on wether to leave or to wait for rescue. Wtf... These idiots dont deserve the millions they get paid and they should never EVER look down upon blue collar workers who saved their useless cushy asses that day at the expense of their own lives.

Its heartbreaking that many men who helped others absolute strangers escape through their sheer bravery and good heart died that day. Men like frank de martini, pablo ortiz, rick rescorla, welles crowther, orio palmer and his fellow fire fighters and many other brave people whose names we dont know. There is a famous saying among soldiers worldwide that the only real heroes are dead heroes.

After all these years, I’ve finally found the documentary that opened the gateway for me into 9/11. That was 11 years ago and I’m currently 21 years old. When I first saw this documentary, I didn’t know what to make of it. I didn’t cry or scream in terror. Not even my facial expressions changed. I remained quiet the entire time and my eyes never wandered from the TV screen. It was by chance that I came across this film when I was browsing for something to watch because I was bored. And it was once again by chance that I came across the same film on the anniversary of 9/11. I came to believe it to be fate when I recognized this film from years ago. My thoughts on it now have remained the same as they were then. I’m still completely stunned and horrified by all of it. I may not have shown emotions 11 years ago, but I most certainly do now. I will never forget 9/11, the story this film portrays, and other stories like it. May the victims of 9/11 rest in peace and may God bless the souls that survived.
