Not gonna lie, nothing has turned me off from this system more than hearing the implication that character creation is so complicated you need a computer to do it. I really want to like this system though.

Hey why can't you show any images? like character sheets or representative examples of the topic discussed, you can use almost everything you want under the fair use and educational purpose as you are educating US on how to properly apply and use GURPS. I actually am researching if I want to get into the system so I am the embodiment of someone being really educated by a video like this one. I am not understanding shit because of the lack of visual aid...

These are kind of confusing videos. I would have made a chart or something to show what I was talking about but you just have an animal picture up which is far from helpful in conveying your point.

OK so for years I have been here and there thinking of what I would put in a game system I would create myself . Lol I should have just looked at GURPS in the beginning because its about 98% exactly what I would do.

I'm pretty sure that in response to being surprised, you begin making saves immediately not after the potential 6 seconds are up, and if you have Combat Reflexes you don't roll at all, you just ignore the effect of stun. For example if the GM rolled a 4, you would be stunned for potentially 4 rounds of combat. On your first turn let's say you're able to succeed on your IQ check. You can break out of the stun and act next turn. If you have combat reflexes, again, you just ignore the effects of stun and continue your turn as normal.

even you do 6 damage and your enemy has -10 damage armor you do 1 damage

Generally speaking I think this varies from DM to DM, I can't actually find a source in the books saying one way or the other. I usually let players do minimum 1 damage but NPCs can be reduced to 0. Some GMs base it on the type of damage (most common iirc is crushing minimum 0, otherwise minimum 1)

Thanks for the video! I'm still debating if I want to use GURPS or another system and this video helped me get a better understanding of how gurps is. Your voice and your mic where pretty good so it was pleasant to listen to while I did some house chores, lol. Thanks!

I could be wrong, but I swore that initiative was only ever rolled when surprised, and otherwise it was just whoever has the highest basic speed goes first, regardless of side, and then it just followed basic speed from that point on

Yup, hence the mental stun, that would be far to cruel, if that was standard initiative the team that lost initiative would probably always lose the fight

14:50 This is a thing I struggled with for quite a while, but after awhile I read the clause where if you succeed by the margin of the shield bonus the hit is counted as "blocked" not dodged or parried and can incur damage to the shield. This is to coincide with the fact that you can only block actively block one attack per turn, but can passively dodge more by parrying and dodging. This also also makes sense if you practice any sort of weapon based martial art, including line fighting larp.

Initiative is maybe the most controversial aspect of GURPS combat sisyem. I opted for a mix of the two suggested ways. Every PG rolls a die, and sum up the speed. Ties consider the real speed, not movement (so that a 5.25 is better than 5.00). Then, I roll just once for NPCs. Skills and advantages may give a bonus if it's the case. The simple die roll is unfair for fast characters, but I found unrealistic that fast people with combat reflexes are always the first to act. In a fight, luck counts.

Hear hear! I recently had my (previously traumatized-by-GURPS) group float the idea of returning to it for a particularly prickly campaign idea that doesn't fit squarely anywhere else, and I committed to the mission of making GURPS palatable for them, whatever it took. GURPS Lite is basically that. After so many campaigns that bloated beyond playability because I didn't know how to neatly package and condense the rules for my players, returning to the core rules is a must. It's way too easy to be taken in by GURPS's flexibility and forget how overwhelming it can be for everyone involved.

For sure. I use around 7 books for pretty much every game, and it's easy to forget that that sounds intimidating to my players when really it means "I use like two rules from three of these, one is just for equipment, and the other three are extended options lists"

So I think you don't really understand the policy. It's not really your fault it is very badly worded and makes untrue claims. For example it says game rules are copyrighted which per the US Copyright office is NOT true: " Copyright does not protect the idea for game, its name or title, or *the method or methods for playing it* (...) Copyright protects only the particular manner of an author’s expression in literary, artistic, or musical form." ( www.copyright.gov/fls/fl108.pdf ) "In no case does copyright protection for an original work of authorship extend to any idea, procedure, process, system, method of operation, concept, principle, or discovery, regardless of the form in which it is described, explained, illustrated, or embodied in such work." - 17 U.S. Code § 102.Subject matter of copyright. :In general , "Game mechanics and *rules* are not entitled to copyright protection, but expressive elements may be copyrightable, including game labels, design of game boards, playing cards, and graphical works, as well as elements of the characters - if they are sufficiently developed. Copyright does not protect “stock” characters." ( summation of DaVinci Editrice S.r.l. v. Ziko Games, LLC et al, No. 4:2013cv03415 - Document 44 (S.D. Tex. 2014) ) One need not be a lawyer (I'm not, but Zachary Strebeck IS) to see whoever wrote SJG online policy didn't really know what they were doing as the method (ie rules) weren't ever protected by copyright and certainly are not per the 2014 court ruling. ( strebecklaw.com/court-rules-favor-cloned-tabletop-game-no-protection-us-copyright-law/ ) and SJG is under that court's jurisdiction so barring an over turn on appeal they are stuck with it.
